Reviews on Mediterranean food in Evansville, Indiana, United States. Situated on a gentle bend of the Ohio River at the hub between Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky, Evansville is a sizable metropolis with small town friendliness. There is something for everyone to discover, whether it is a chance encounter with Lady Luck on the riverboat Casino Aztar, a brisk hike along the Riverfront promenade, a step into history at Angel Mounds State Historic Site, fun with the family at Kid's Kingdom or an escape to verdant Pigeon Creek Greenway Passage.

From its historic sites to its beautiful, sea-swept coasts, Greece is a country rich in history, tradition and character. At the Acropolis restaurant, you will experience the rich tradition and character through our authentic Greek and Mediterranean cuisi
Greek is the specialty and tasty it is. Nice menu selection. Ample seating & parking. Ambiance is romantic. $8 house wine bottles on Thursdays ~ lunch & dinner. An Evansville favorite.

Decided to give this place a try after coming across it on Trip Advisor. I ordered the Lamb Schwarma combo and chose falafels as my side. My wife ordered a greek salad with gyro meat. We also tried an order of Hummus. Everthing was very good, and the restaurant seemed moderately clean for being in an old Cap'n D's or maybe a former chicken joint. I would definitely come back and next time probably order the lamb shank.

Came here on a cold Evansville day about an hour before they closed so maybe the experience would be better if it was prime dinner time (though it was still fairly busy so the kitchen should still be fully-functioning.The service was quick and friendly, waitstaff and bartender quickly made us feel at ease (The place had a very impressive whiskey collection if you're looking for a bar). Interior was intimate and well-appointed, you can definitely feel the character of the place. You have a small sitting area up front, then a bar facing a number of booths with additonal seating in the back. Not a large space, but enough for Evansville. The menu looked delicious, but the mediocre execution really dropped this to 3 stars. Shepard's platter - decent amount of food, but the flavor wasn't there. Neither of the hummus's really stood out beyond store bought hummus, though the bread was good.Filet - Decently tender, but doesn't come close to a great steak in EvansvilleLamb Chops - These were well-seasoned, but inconsistently cooked (some were cooked to a medium-rare while others were rare). Had to send one back to be re-cooked. The rice and vegetables were okOverall, not bad for Mediterranean food in Evansville, but could always be better.

I asked my 13 year old son if he was up for a food adventure and he said sure. So we visited Oasis Café for lunch. We couldn't decide on one dish so we split the ultimate meat lover combination plate. We each kept exclaiming "This is SO good!" after each bite we took. The plate included hummus, Arabian salad, chicken and beef shawarma, beef kafta kabob, gyro meat, one pita (cut into fourths), and rice. The Arabian salad was absolutely divine, and the chicken and beef shawarma was tender and flavorful. The reasons I'm only giving it a 4 instead of 5 stars is because of the atmosphere and price. You order at counter and the food is brought on Styrofoam plates. The décor was dated and there was some wear and tear. It wasn't the cleanest restaurant. The lack of cleanliness, the fact that it wasn't a sit-down restaurant and the small portion size made it hard to pay $18 for one meal and two drinks. I felt that the price compared to the serving size was disproportionate. Even though the meat lover's plate sounded like a lot of food, there were only a few small pieces of each meat and only one pita that was cut into fourths. It was enough for one person, but I'm not willing to pay that much for a meal at a fast food style restaurant. The amazing quality and taste of the food will guarantee that I will return, but I will not be ordering a $12 meal because I did not feel like it was $12 worth of food. I'll stick with one of the cheaper sandwich options.
