I was GRANDPAcking in Vilca for 1 week.I found myself down at the Carro Azul on several occasions. It is located on the main eastern road about 500 metres from town. Food-wise, they have 3 âhouse specialsâ. One is their Lamb Burger with Fries for $5.50.It is open all day from Wednesday through Sunday. The Blue Car is a âdrinking manâs barâ! A bit of a âDive Barâ. Things can get loud and arguments start frequently. It has Karaoke from 7pm to 10pm on a Wednesday night. It has a popular Pool Table that attracts young locals as well as Gringos. A couple of these youngsters strut around and act âmuchoâ. It creates an aggressive âundertoneâ that you feel could turn ânastyâ at any moment (if someone doesnât quite react properly).Every time that I went there were arguments ⦠it put me off. I had a couple of confrontations with these boys myself â I donât keep quiet when these sorts of guys turn up and âmuscle inâ on the Pool Table when it isnât their turn.Once each week they run a Pool Tournament. It is $5 to buy in. It starts at about 5pm âVilcabamba Timeâ ⦠which could be 6:30 or later. It, usually attracts at least 8 people ⦠so, you can get in a good session of Pool.Letâs hope that Management take appropriate action. If they do, it could be a very nice bar. Thanks for your review. We HAVE cleaned up the pool table and put a stop to arguments at the pool table. There are some we don't allow in anymore and we have a board that people sign up for so everyone knows when their turn is. The emphasis is now on food and music and it's a lot more fun. No more of this "drinking man's bar". Thanks again and hope you stop in again when you're in Vilcabamba and give us feedback.
I've eaten in the main dining on the street and out back but the pool on the patio. I've eaten at lunch many times and a night a few times. All the waitstaff are warm, welcoming, and cheerful. They work very hard to be helpful. The food is very tasty; the prices are reasonable; the lunch special is a bargain - colorful and tasty - but small (they don't try the white rice and potato fillers); usually it's quiet, they have a full bar, and it's a place to relax as service is often slow.

Warm and welcoming enviroment. About pizza: our dough is made with sourdough. This means that it has many benefits, among them: it is easier to digest, it has more vitamins / minerals, and it gives the dough a special texture and flavor. Our ingredients a
I walked in this small eatery and saw a pizza on the counter and I knew this place didn't make good pizza. I then learned this pizza was available by the slice. So to be fair I bought one slice to give the place a chance. That was a good decision since if I would have bought a whole pie I would have been pissed. Avoid this place if you like good pizza!Hi ecuadordean, sorry if you didn't like our pizza and we apologize for the late reply but have had problems with this account. Our pizza is made with sourdough, it is cooked on wood and we cook all the ingredients, including the tomato sauce. Precisely because it is made with sourdough and not with industrial brewer's yeast, leavening is less powerful, but more nutritious and digestible. Maybe it's because our pizza tend to thin and crunchy instead of chewy / soft and high that you didn't like? A clarification would help us to improve.
I have visited more than once and have enjoyed myself immensely. The food is classic Italian (including pizza) with imaginative twists from Chef Belen. This is a family owned and operated enterprise. The partnership of Belen, an Ecuadoran, and her Italian-Ecuadoran husband, Luigi is made in heaven. Luigi produces a divine Tiramisu and superb americano coffee. You will meet mama Rosa as well. Lovely woman and very friendly and talkative. The whole family makes you feel included and worth knowing. Altogether a wonderful and casual dining experience in Vilcabamba.
