At the end of a family ski trip at Alta we enjoyed a great dinner at the Shallow Shaft. The seafood and the gnocchi were hits with everyone. An excellent wine list allowed us to pair great wines with our entrees. The cream of asparagus soup was a wonderful first course. Service was first rate - attentive but not over-bearing. It really is THE PLACE for dinner in Little Cottonwood Canyon.

I had dinner at La Caille this evening (1June2019) for the 1st time in about 12 years. It was terrible! The food, ambience, everything has deteriorated with exception of the prices which are some where in the stratosphere. I guess I should have known when I was immediately seated without a reservation. Instead of asking if they could bring more bread, they asked twice if they could take the bread away. The table was set like a low class restaurant. The waiter took the white napkin and replaced it with a black one. The food preperation was less than mediocre. It's under new ownership of about 9 years and they've really cut their quality in every way. It is way beyond poor value for money.

Log Haven, long synonymous with wildflowers, waterfalls and fine canyon dining, is located in a historic log mansion in the Wasatch National Forest, minutes from downtown Salt Lake City. Consistently honored with the most national and local awards in the
Seriously surprising and elegant setting in the woods, very close to town. The Log building was originally a retreat for a very wealthy family. The decor is log lodge but very well maintained. The food and service were first class. Due to Utah rules, the martini is very small, order something else.

We had heard about this restaurant and were anxious to visit. The waiter helpful and attentive. I ordered the chef's special that day (which sounded scrumptious), a bone-in pork chop with a mustard sauce. Unfortunately, it had been over-brined and was almost too salty to eat, and the sauce overpowered. I did eat it, as I could tell the chop was great, but just way too salty. Hopefully they will modify this dish if repeated. I did enjoy the meal in spite of the salty chop, and would return if om the area again. My mate's salmon was perfect, and the waiter was great.
