It is located between Alkmaar and Den Helder, in the region of West Friesland and the province of North Holland. It received city rights in 1415. In 2013, Schagen merged with Zijpe and Harenkarspel. Together they have formed a new municipality, which is also called Schagen. The townhall is located in the main town of Schagen.

This was the second time that I ate here, and again the wait was very long. Also the staff was sloppy. I normally wouldn't complain about this in a normal restaurant, but for the prices that you pay here you should expect more. The food however was good, but in my opinion not worth the money. Second time here, couldn't wait to try it again as last time I had the 'surprise menu', which was great but now I intended to try the soft shell crab. Of course, as the menu is seasonal, the crab wasn't on the new menu, I should have thought! We had a Chef's table again, entertaining to watch the Chefs and, especially for our Dutch friends ( tall of course), watching me climb up onto the tall chair and jump down too. The food was amazing, the service is still informed, efficient and friendly. The menu had something for everyone, each course light and tasty and yet we ended up very full. Wonderâs has several branches in the Netherlands and we visited the Schagen branch for both a light lunch (tomato soup and a ham and cheese sandwich) and a dinner (Satay Chicken with the inevitable French fries). Presentation, food quality and service standards were all excellent.
