If you canât make it to Ireland, do the next best thing! A true public house experience and a Bloomington tradition since 1982, The Irish Lion Restaurant & Pub is in a restored historic 1882 tavern, a 1/2 block west of the square in the heart of downtown
Three of us ate here when Farm was closed for the July 4 holiday. Our friend assured us how good the food was but I found it lacking on all fronts. We had what they call call Irish soda bread to start but it wasnât even vaguely like the soda bread we have in Boston or any other places Iâve been either. It was just Carmel colored thin sliced bread with no raisins. For dinner I had the duck with stuffing and baked apple. The duck was rather blah and needed seasoning. The skin wasnât crispy and the baked apple wasnât even cooked. My companions liked their meals but werenât overly enthusiastic.

Full service restaurant serving lunch and dinner during the week, with brunch on Saturday and Sunday. Full-service bakery, catering and retail wine
Recently, we had our Valentines dinner at the Feast Market & Cellar. Their special menu was very nice and had right sized portions. My favorite was the amuse bouche, home made bread served with two delicious butter. The starters was a baked Brie crepe tart, then the second course was the lobster ravioli. Loved the blood orange palette cleanser sorbet served before the main course. While I had the seafood paella featuring jumbo scallops, my spouse had the braised short rib with hominy. As usual, we switched our plates in the middle to share both the taste. Our Malbec which we chose paired well with the dinner. The fourth course was the yummy panna cotta with strawberry & chocolate coulis. This is one of our favorite restaurant in Bloomington since they opened it many years ago!

Our waiter was really nice; when I forgot my sweatshirt he ran all the way down the block to return it!Food was tasty; I'd recommend the Tibetan dishes (stew and momos) over the others. Such a cool location; I love how the restaurant is in what used to be a house. We sat outside and listened to the little waterfall. A soothing, pleasant atmosphere.

The local restaurant market is largely rustic proletariat in keeping with a Midwest college town yet Bloomington has often had a couple of near world class dining experiences. Think previously Talent and now Feast. This is not one. Not even close. The table offered, even when the place was largely vacant, was like a tourist class seat on a bargain airline. The drinks took about 15 minutes to arrive while the fully illustrated bartender attempted his imitation of Tom Cruz but mostly succeeded in just making a racket with cocktail shakers. Stingy pours, I got a nice glass of gin by ordering 3. Lots of staff everywhere doing only who knows what. The scallop (2 U 10s maybe) and green bean dish arrived cold and remained that way even after a polite request to reheat. The chop was large but just nothing special. The wait staff was interested mostly in each other and had a level of professionalism one would expect at a donut shop or cafeteria. Lots of ink and entitled attitude catering to an aging middle class date night crowd that apparently accepts mediocre service and worse food because itâs one of the few venues in Bloomington where the decor looks a little upscale. Moderately priced at a C note for two, but not a pleasant experience at any price.
