The Idle Rocks has the most enviable location in St Mawes, overlooking the harbour with views across the River Fal to Falmouth. After a long day lazing on the beach, our south facing terrace is the perfect place to relax, have a long drink, and watch the
We didn't want to dine here this trip so we opted for afternoon tea. The location is wonderful with views across the bay. The food was excellent, the cheese scones probably the best ever, with plenty of cream cheese and pickle. Lots of cream for the sweet scone as well, not that I could remember which order for jam and cream in Cornwall! Good choice of cakes.Several comments about staff, we had no issues, met our requests to amend the selection of cakes quite happily. All in all a very lovely afternoon tea, and good value

Family run restaurant owned by a local Cornish family, offering the best ingredients Cornwall has to offer. The best Sunday Roasts for miles around as well as delicious steaks, pizzas & seafood during the week. Why not pop in for a great breakfast? Everyt
Food was very heavy and calorie laden, had heartburn for 2 days afterwards .garlic bread was literally dripping , if you like greasy food its definitely for you, I had the scallops which I thought was a healthy choice, but they were so swamped in sauce they were deemed tastless.Sorry to hear of your disappointed. The scallops are actually one of our most popular dishes and we've never had a complaint about them. it's a shame you didn't mention any of the issues during your visit with us. I'm also very sorry you had too waste time writing your very first review on trip advisor when again you just have simply mentioned it on the night . What did you have for mains ? Hopefully they were to you satisfaction ? Also the only gave 2 stars for service. This shocks me as Sarah is an absolute diamond of a host and is fantastic with all the customers. Thank you for you wordsPaul

Not being veggie OR vegan, I normally shy away from the 'veggie option' - but for whatever reason I chose the Veggie Burger for myself and holy mackerel ( - holy seaweed?) it was amazing.

Serving a fusion of South African cuisine along with other dishes made using Chorley's famous Peri-Peri sauce. You'll find traditional meals like Burgers, Ribs and Chicken all cooked in Chorley's Sauce along with Boerewors, Bunny Chow & Biltong supporting
Of course, it doesnât pretend to be the best for vegetarians as South African cuisine is very meat orientated, and out of choice I would not choose a place featuring the cuisine but when a family member chooses to go, you want to be included. There are a few options for vegetarians- a couple of vegetable burgers and a couple of spicy curries, which if they hadnât been labelled as spicy, and therefore probably very spicy, I might have sampled this. So I asked for the chicken and vegetable skewers without the chicken as I thought that this would be a nice way to sample the mild bbq smokey sauce. Unfortunately the first attempt at doing this was unsuccessful ( by the chef, not me) so it was repeated, but this meant I received my meal when my family were half way through their mains. The skewers when they arrived were tasty and well cooked, but portion size was small. The rest of the family enjoyed their meals, so this is a quality place for meat eaters - it could just do a few more options for vegetarians at a reasonable price, as the cost of ingredients is usually significantly less. My other area for improvement would be the wine choice and quality- all drinkable and heroing South Africa as it should, but knowing South Africa is renowned for wine production, this could be improved on. Many thanks for taking the time to leave a review based on your recent visit to Chorley's.We apologise once again for the mistake made with your skewers. It was rectified but like you said, receiving your meal half way through everyone else's wasn't ideal but unfortunately mistakes do sometimes happen. We do feel that despite being an African Grill that focuses mainly on meats, we do actually offer a fair amount of veggie and vegan options too. This obviously isn't as extensive as our main menu but there are around 6 meals as well as other 'build your own' options too. We are sorry that you felt there weren't enough options to suit you. We would love to increase our whole alcohol range including the wines but unfortunately due to the size of our bar and storage room space we simply cannot expand at this time. The wines we currently have were chosen very carefully to suit the foods and flavours that we serve. Again, apologies that you felt the wine wasnt up to standard. Thanks again for sharing your feedback. We always strive to improve where applicable and can only do so with constructive offerings and feedback. All the best from The Chorley Family
