What a great place to eat lovely Greek food. Service is impeccable. Menu is good.We got starter plates of feta, olives, grilled octopus and Cypriot sausage. This was complemented with house made bread stick. The octopus was tasty and char grilled, the sausage was amazing. We had the serve of Gyros lamb as a shared main. Again the lamb was tender with lots of crunchy bits. We shared a fresh salad with this.Place was packed.Good food, good service, quick service. Thanks

Visiting Melbourne to see family and they treated me to a Sunday evening dinner at Hellenic Republic. Simply wow! From the moment we stepped into the warm space,we were welcomed like family. The waiter ( who could be cast as the main romantic lead in any movie) was very helpful in explaining the various options. We went for the second $75 per head banquet and what a great decision. Having visited Greece three times, I am very particular about the quality of Greek cuisine and believe me, this was top quality. The waiter also generously sent us home with the left over delights as we could not eat another morsel of the beautiful food.I will be back! Thanks for sharing such fabulous feedback with us, Australian57.We couldn't be happier to hear that your family enjoyed such a wonderful reunion with us, and especially that our team was able to create such a warm and memorable dining experience for your group. It was so lovely to hear how much you enjoyed your meal and we hope you'll join us again on your next visit to Melbourne!

Authentic Greek Souvlaki Bar in the heart of Thornbury. The first of its kind.
When GR first opened the souvlakia where sensational. The quality has slowly deteriorated. Tonight was the worst ever. I thought I would give it another chance as last time the portions where almost half in size. Tonight we bought souvlakia and a meat platter for 2. My souvlaki had 3 small strips of meat in it and our friends platter for 2, had enough food for one person not two. The meat was chewy and very fatty. Very unhappy with the service and food which left me feeling unsatisfied. The Menu was in poor repair and the tables where dirty, not to mention the dirty glasses. We wonât be back any time soon. GR you need to step it up.... no wonder there where only 2 people at 7pm on a Friday night!!!

Extremely busy and noisy, we had the set menu $55 per head! Starters of bread and dips were good but it went downhill from there, Saganaki was cold and hard, meat platter was cold and rubbery, the âGreekâ salad consisted of shredded lettuce a couple of tomato wedges & 4 small cubes of feta. Fish was disappointing and the calamari rubbery. Dessert was a disaster!
