Top 10 European food in Bad Honningen, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany

Troja is just slightly out of the town center---still walking distance and there is a path (labeled with a sign for Troja) up from the river path, so you do not have to walk on the ugly and busy main road. They also have a large parking lot for those who prefer to drive. The menu was large, with several options for those who do not care for Greek food (as the one in our group who fell into this category, I was quite happy about this). The food was good overall, though heavily salted (and I like salt!) which detracted. Nothing stood out as particularly superb, nor was anything for our group of four, who all ordered starters and main courses, of low quality. I would say good, reliable, for reasonable prices.

One thing is clear; you won't leave the place hungry. Portions are humongous and there is enough meat to feed whole army battalion. The service is very friendly, welcoming you with ouzo. The prices are very decent! Recommended!

After reading the reviews I expected something really sensational, but actually I was fairly disappointed. The food was really just ok. Wine was good and the staff were friendly. But first back to the food... everything was far too salty!!!! The moussaka had the most salt! The dish itself was good. It had the right mix of I gradients, had the right consistency... but was so salty that one couldn't enjoy it. Second was the Greek salad... also way, way too salty! Then last were the spanakokeftethes and the grilled octopus... not as bad as the moussaka and the salad, but still way too salty. And speaking of the grilled octopus... it was rather mushy. The head waiter explained to us that it is supposed to be that way, and perhaps he is right, but my experience in other (very good) Greek restaurants is that it should be al dente. I mean it should not be rubbery, but nice to bite into :-) ok, so in summary, nice people, tasty wine... but the food was not quite right. Drive to Essen and try Eleon in Rüttenscheider Str.... there you can eat really fantastic meze.
