Once a satellite of Galway city, the village is now rapidly becoming one of its suburbs. Officially, the village is regarded as Irish speaking and is therefore a constituent part of the regions of Ireland that make up the Gaeltacht. However, because of its absorption into the city, it has recently become a mainly English speaking village. Three of us called in on a busy Wednesday evening. We had to wait about twenty minutes for a table - no problem. We were seated as promised and the menu was outlined to us most efficiently.Very good variety on the menu and we settled for Battered Fish and Chips, The Fish Special of the evening which was Hake and finally Killary Mussels. Glasses of wine for the ladies and water for the driver. The food was really good and served perfectly. Coffees followed and we were satisfied. The one disappointing feature was the cost of the glasses of wine at â¬8.60 a glass, which seemed excessive. Remarkable and very surprising given our previous experiences in this area.

Our hotel recommended another place, but it had fewer choices and higher prices. Looked on TA and found this just a short walk away. The restaurant was not particularly busy when we arrived. The hostess seated us near a family of young children who were not being taught how to behave in a restaurant. Although we said nothing, the server could tell that the noise irritated us and asked us if we'd like to move to a quieter section of the restaurant, a most welcome suggestion.The food was excellent. We both ordered lamb, and it was perfectly prepared, appetizingly presented, and delicious. Seasoned just right, not over-spiced like too many restaurants tend to do to their food. Flavorful and tender, it was mouth-wateringly delicious. The server was helpful, friendly, and attentive without hovering. We felt neither ignored nor rushed during our meal. The table, chairs, dishes, glasses, and utensils were clean and in good condition. So glad we didn't take the hotel's suggestion to eat at another place, and discovered John Keogh's Gastropub instead!

Very cool Irish pub. We had dinner and drinks in the upstairs bar. Friendly staff...great food...very popular and AMAZING cocktails! Chilled atmosphere and live music every night of the week. We had to wait for a table which was no issue. Definitely check it out if in Galway.
