A French restaurant in South Pasadena featuring culinary artistry by Chef Bruno Morin who is locally-known and critically-acclaimed as the best chef in the Mission District. Chef Bruno hand-picks fruits and vegetables from the South Pasadena Farmer's Mark
Despite having brunch reservations, for some reason we were banished to the secondary room, the one without proper table cloths and missing the good natural lighting of the main dining room. We were the only party assigned to that room. Not a fortuitous beginning, to be sure. We ordered a round of mimosas and they were good. Next we shared some appetizers from the daily chalk menu, i.e. beets/green beans and a liver pate. They were both good, although the very fresh beets/beans needed a vinaigrette of some sort to give them some taste. I do compliment them on their farm to table approach. One of the party had the soup and said it was excellent, as it should be for a lofty $18 a bowl. For mains, we had French Toast which was fine, nothing special; a special of the day Roast Pork which was dry (a real disappointment, especially at $30); a Nicoise Salad which had very fresh ingredients and a nice piece of sautéed trout (it would have been really excellent if it were not for the lack of a vinaigrette â it may have had a vinaigrette, but if it was there, it was sprayed on very lightly); the Mussels were really good, as was the Linguine with Manila Clams. For dessert, we shared a Crème Brulée and a Tarte Tatin. The Tarte was nicely caramelized and very tasty; the Crème Brulée failed our expectations since it was a bit too thick and not much custard in the ramekin â the burnt sugar crust was, however, done well. The custard was served at room temperature, although all of us would have preferred it to be semi-warm.Mains courses did not come out together and there was a very awkward wait to eat since we wanted to eat all at once.Sorry we didnât have a better experience, although the server was very nice and knowledgeable of her menu.

Primarily a deli with take-out and table service, this is a lovely place for lunch or an early dinner (later on Thursdays, when the South Pasadena farmers' market takes place.) Quiche, lovely soups and salads, sandwiches and a very decent wine-by-the glass list make this a must for every visitor to South Pasadena. If the weather permits, sit outside on the terrace. And don't miss the in-house desserts - luscious lemon tarts, chocolate tarts and other delights. While you wait, peruse the selection of cheeses and gourmet condiments.

As long as you are prepared for what the check says at the end of your meal...The dishes are all well presented and tasty. (Although our halibut was a bit on the dry side this evening.) The kitchen is also flexible and accommodating which is especially nice when you can not or do not eat certain things. Donât be shocked when you look at the red wine list and there are only a few bottles under $100. The wait staff is attentive and friendly. Our wait person made a mistake (accidentally poured water in a red wine glass) and profusely apologized the rest of the evening. He also gave us all a complimentary glass of wine and desert, which we really appreciated.
