Today's Rhetorical Question : Why, here on Tripadvisor, is the Alaska State Fair listed under Restaurants and not under Things To Do in Palmer, Alaska ??Because of this fact, I will begin my photo upload showing some of the many food venues at the Alaska State Fair. Then will come photos of the animals. Finally a few photos of other things to see and to do at the Fair.My wife and I used to attend the Alaska State Fair together on some semblance of regularity. However, because of difficulty standing and walking long distances, she opted-out of accompanying me to this year's event. True there are a lot of places for seniors to sit down. However, it is an all-day type of event and, if you are disabled, be sure to pace-yourself.It is just a fun thing-to-do. Everyone seems to be enjoying themselves. The displays in the exhibition halls are interesting. So too are the animals. This year I did not see a mother pig with piglets. I visited the fair the day it opened. Maybe, after my visit, a mother pig had a batch of piglets. If there is a mother pig with her piglets, they are a must-see attraction in my opinion.

Fast-food chains are designed to be identical no matter where you go. Where they differ is how they are managed and who they have working there. The Palmer Subway has never let me down. They offer a quality sandwich with freshly baked bread and cookies every time I go in there. Service is always prompt (even when they're slammed during the lunchtime rush) and the employees are generally pretty positive and do a good job. The only tiny gripe I have is that the Palmer Subway is a bit stingy in their sandwich fixings, especially the meat. They give EXACTLY the amount of meat they are supposed to on their sandwiches and not a gram more. Most of the surrounding Subways are more generous in their meat offerings.Otherwise, no complaints! I eat there regularly and always leave full.

The only thing missing here is the kitchen sink when you get one of their Cardiac Specials. Nice, white, perfectly cooked spuds - whole - stuffed and filled with goodies enough to gorge on is their fare. I go to the fair every year to get a few particular items to eat: Potato Palace potatoes are one of the annual absolutes.Thank you so much!! We are proud of our loyal fans and look forward to feeding you year after year!
While at the Fair, you've got to stop by Pioneer Peak Pretzel Co. Breakfast features great cinnamon and sugar pretzels, the rest of the day has unique combinations such as pesto/sun-dried tomato or old an stand-by like pepperoni and/or cheese. They come out hot, fresh and with soft bread dough. Yum!!
