This bar has now changed it's name to The Moon Bar but inside it is still recognizable except that the furniture consists of highly polished natural wooden tables and chairs whereas before there were bamboo ones. The large wall paintings showing bamboo forest and rivers, mountains etc are still there. The toilets are new and cleaner than before. The new owners are Andrew , a very friendly man (fom Wales) and his wife Anne (Thai). They had live music by an Australian guitarist during the week I visited in July- August 2014. At other times there is a large TV showing English movies or sports. The kitchen has been cleaned up and there is now a wall infront of it adorned with English style paintings. The large dog (Boo) has gone and there is one wall with a big Moon scene painted on it and the new name. There is a pool table and also darts, which are popular with the local Thai people. Every evening I went there an elephant came past the bar with it's owners, who encouraged customers to feed it sugar cane. I even got a couple of pictures of a baby elephant almost coming in the front door. It is quite common to see elephants in the centre of Hatyai visiting the tourist bars most evenings. If you disapprove of this, don't worry the elephant owners do not hassle you if you just say "Mai OW Khrap" (No thank you). The elephants sometimes have bicycle lights attached to their tails for safety so drivers can see them. The Moon Bar is a late night venue and it really gets going about 10pm onwards until the early hours when most other places are closed. Various Thai girls from the Pink Lady often come after finishing work. There are also a number of pretty Thai waitresses who are very polite and provide efficient and fast service especially if they see your glass is nearly empty. There is Thai food available cooked by Anne which is very good although at present there isn't a menu, so just ask her what she has got that day. Most of the customers are Thai, Singaporean or Malaysian but there is also a mixture of expat English teachers and a few off-shore oil and gas workers. Often the customers from other local bars come here if their usual bar is closed. One frequent visitor is a very friendly local man called Kim who speaks Hakka Chinese, Mandarin, Hokkien and Thai as well as English. Beers served include Tiger, Singha, Leo, Chang and Heineken, including big bottles.Although there is no outdoor seating the restaurant/bar has an open front and a counter with bar stools facing the street. These are good if you want to watch people passing by and get some fresh air. The bar does not have aircon but the open front and many fans keep a cool atmosphere.
