Creel Restaurant

The waiter was incredibly helpful and welcoming and we enjoyed our evening overall. We had spent a day at the Scottish open and were looking forward to a special meal to finish off our day. We loved the complementary snifters before courses- a spicy Bloody Mary, rhubarb smoothie and a noggin of Sangria. The menu had lots to choose from, both seafood and terrestrials. I started with delicious mussels and a nice touch was the finger bowl was proper hot when the food arrived, so it was just perfect to wash my hands in when I was finished. Mussels plump, fresh and in a delicious winey- creamy sauce, which managed to be rich and fresh at the same time! He had a tasty chicken salad with crispy coating and tasty dressing. We both opted for fish and chips for main but in different ways- he the fried variety which was crisp and served with mushy peas. More vinegar please though! I ordered the coley which was on a bed of mixed fried potatoes and salad. Not the best combination, potatoes not crisp and salad becoming a wee bit soggy in the mix. Skin on the fish wasn't scaled so couldn't eat it . Distinctly average I am afraid. The dining room a little smokey from the cooking. All in all pleasant but not exceptional and, I am afraid, Edinburgh prices.

This is our first visit to rocks under the new owner, the new revamped decor is light and fresh, met by a pleasant young man who showed us to our table and gave us the menu what a wonderful selection and very difficult to make our minds up,order taken by the new owner who I have to say has his finger on the pulse, we had to wait on our starter but to be fair the restaurant was very busy, pigeon breast on a bed of creamy risotto was beautiful and my partner had fish cake in a creamy sauce well worth the wait. To follow chicken breast which was cooked to perfection and pig on a plate 4 different cuts of pork the best he has tasted in a long time no room for desert and we will definitely be back, thank you to the staff for an excellent evening

Looking for somewhere to stop off after a day trip south of the border, this was the place that ticked all the pre-planning boxes and what a nice place it was. Seated very promptly when we arrived and a drinks order taken (nice touch water automatically placed on the table without having to ask) and menu's handed out. There is a nice range of food to choose from and reasonable prices too.I went for the mac and cheese and it was worth the 10 minute wait as it was really delicious! The chunky chips (more like huge tattie wedges) were an excellent accompaniment too! OH gave the thumbs up to his fish and chips too. We were both stuffed so didn't have a dessert. For those not native to Dunbar, the postcode for the hotel isn't correct - it takes you to the street behind the hotel, I had to change from using the Sat Nav to Google Maps to actually find the place, so beware!Dear Ne_quineThank you so much for taking the time to review your dinning experience with us. We were absolutely delighted to read your comments and feedback and will ensure that everyone involved shares in your kind comments.I will also share with Paul and his brigade in the kitchen your brilliant comments about the Mac Cheese and Fish Chips - the portions are to set you up and maybe next time we can tempt you to a pud!I do hope we can welcome you back soonKind regardsPhilip

This is a little gem and put together with great care. Firstly the context, this is a small cafe attached to a wake park trying to do something a bit different and with a quality twist, it is not an inside venue with lots of room. They clearly make a lot of the products locally and have a great range of products for what they are working in a 'big shed' with a hatch. Very nice staff who care about what they are doing and who bring everything to you. Ok it can be a bit pricier than some but that's probably a price you have to pay for home baking and quality food and coffees. (Try Hillend for cheap!) As you are sitting out to eat the ideas of the boxes for food stop it blowing into the water is clever. We have eaten here all across this summer and it's great to have a quality operation in what is a challenging venue, partly due to its seasonality and space issues, so thanks for making it different.Recommend the nachos and the smoothies.....with a bacon roll on the side! with Pretzel and Almond Crossant to finish.Thank you for your kind review and comments. It is important to us to offer our customers tasty freshly made food and do our utmost to use local and seasonal produce as much as we can. We are delighted you have tasted our dishes and are a regular satisfied customer and hope you will continue to be so for a very long time.
