Mel's looks like a traditional old diner, all silver and neon on the outside. We have visited several times over two Fremont visits, a year apart. Strong smell of grease when you walk in is a little discouraging.. I got the "Buddy Holly" which is eggs, potatoes, lots of vegetables and I was very happy with it. Our group was happier with breakfast type items on this diner menu than with the lunch/supper choices. Luckily, breakfast items are available at all times. The service was good and the prices were reasonable.

Have eaten here a number of times over the past year. The food is always fresh and very tasty! Broasted Chicken, Hot Beef, Chicken Fried Steak and a great Reuben! Their pies are the bee's knees! They even discount it if bought with a meal.Service is friendly and good enough if you are patient. They seem to know all the regulars and some chatting will take place. No worries, you are getting real good food at small town prices.Bargain tip: When I want a quick bite and not a full meal, I hit their drive-thru where they will sell you just the sandwich for cheap. I usually get the Reuben; it's the best $5 value I've found. Huge sandwich will feed me twice. My go to choice in Fremont is Mac's Cafe!
had not been here in a while - had breakfast with a friend - seated my self in a booth ( there are semi-circular counter type seating also) owner brought me some coffee as i waited for a friend and read the newspaper, friend and ordered the same ,by coincidence , a two egg protein omelet w/ hash browns and toast. Food arrived at same time and was right off the grill - this Omelet has bacon, sausage and ham and cheese in it - our bills were roughly about $9.50 each and we had plenty of coffee. Service is always outstanding and food is terrific - i love coming here - prices up a little due to price increase in eggs - but still well worth it

Love the decor!! Typical retro diner look. Clean. Small menu. I experienced staff. Cook didnt seem to know how to cook eggs. Maybe grill was too hot or dirty. Ham was black, scrambled eggs were not. Basted eggs were not. We were the only customers. Waitress tried, but wasnt very good. The bill did not match the menu prices.....not handwritten, but all done by the computer. When I brought it to their attention, they didnt know how to handle it....just said thats weird.
