Years ago I worked at the mall across the street from The Apple Pan. We used to go there at least twice a week. I was in the area today, so I decided to see if I could get a seat without waiting too long. As luck would have it, I grabbed one at the end ot the counter. FYI - All they have is counter seating (maybe 25 seats), so it can get crowded fast. I had the famous Steakburger, fries and a drink. It was very good. Plenty of fries, they even put the catsup on a plate for you.

After a 6:15am touchdown on a Delta flight to LAX, a search for a breakfast spot seemed a bit laborious after our red eye. However, I glanced at all the best locations within a few minutes from LAX and found The Serving Spoon. Boasting over 1600 reviews and 4 1/2 stars caught my attention. So, we ventured out and arrived within the allotted time that Waze told us we would. The little breakfast spot was smack in the middle of strip mall to be sure. It was just my type of Ma n Pa restaurant. We entered and was immediately greeted by a very courteous hostess. Coffee came very quickly and a homey feel took over. I was already quite satisfied with the experience then and there. However, there was an expansive menu with just about anything you might want for breakfast. Chicken N waffles. Grits. Eggs over easy. Sourdough toast. But, the chicken sausage was the winner. Hand formed and cooked to perfection. We were attended to without feeling rushed but witnessed the rush of other "believers" clamoring to fill the waiting room for their chance to enjoy the "good life" in this little diner. It was over all too soon and we begrudgingly gave back our little corner to the awaiting masses. I'm proud to say that the service we received rivaled and surpassed a recent service blunder on the island of Kauai at a corporate hotel. Hyatt got nothin on You Spoons! I'll be back...

Popular with the locals (including me) means that on the weekends you may have to wait a bit to get seated. Also, the restaurant is "cash only". Now - on to the good stuff: great breakfast items and friendly service. There are countless items on the breakfast menu. Every time I go, I try something new. This past week I tried the scrambled eggs and turkey burger, with a side of sliced tomatoes. Oh, and sourdough toast on the side. Another plus: fresh squeezed orange juice!! The diner has no parking lot, but you should be able to find parking on the metered streets (Culver Blvd. or Washington) or in one of the city lots not too far away.

This is one of those diners that is kind of noisy, frequently crowded, and just overall fun to eat at. The food is delicious and plentiful (oh, those burgers...), the coffee keeps flowing, the hostesses and wait staff are all so very friendly and on the spot with service, the prices fair... We ate at the counter because it was crowded but enjoyed every minute of it. You'll recognize this well-maintained diner from the movies as several have been filmed there. Wonderful place to eat!
