I'm visiting in the Detroit area and wanted a high-quality corned beef sandwich and a whole salami to take with me when I fly out in a couple of days. Stage Deli is by far the best choice for this. If I was just rating the food, this would be a 5-star rating. But the rating is for the overall experience, not just for the quality of the food. Prices are a bit high at $15 for the sandwich, and $15 per pound ($30+ for a standard-sized salami) for the salami. I got those at the take out counter, then was given the bill to take to the register. On the bill was included recommended tips to be added at my choosing. I fully understand and agree with tipping a server when dining in a restaurant, but this was a takeout order. The person behind the counter prepared and wrapped the sandwich, and merely wrapped the whole salami in paper before placing both in a paper bag. Asking another $9-10 for a tip for this level of service on a takeout order strikes me as excessive. The prices are high to begin with, and suggesting tip levels on a takeout order should not be their practice. If I was in the area again though, and wanted the same food, I would definitely return to Stage Deli for my purchase. There aren't any choices in the area that even come close in quality.Thank you for sharing Barry. We are tickled that you enjoyed our food! I moved to Florida many years ago, and when I come home to visit Pickles and Rye is our family favorite. Great service, nice portions, flavorful food, daily specials. Sandwiches are generous and served on hand sliced double baked rye. The mushroom barley soup is excellent. New and old dills are brought as an appetizer, then again with the meal.

We used to live near and frequent Siegel's Deli when Boris owned it so we were really happy when we saw he was opening up a deli down the street from where we now live. There is no "real" deli close by other than Tony's in Keego. Just realized it opened up a few days ago so my wife and I scooted down the street for dinner and we were not disappointed. Boris and his wife recognized us from the "old days" and couldn't have been any nicer. My wife had cabbage soup, her favorite while I went for my favorite...mushroom barley which was great. Boris makes it with beef like my Mom used to make. My wife had a half turkey, cole slaw Russian grilled..yes, made with real roasted turkey while I had a corned beef sandwich which was great. The prices are very reasonable, much less than you will pay at any of the other authentic delis in the metro area and just as good and better than many. It's mainly a carry out place but there are 4-6 tables so you can eat there. Would be tough with a large party though. We will definitely be regulars at Boris's. Great addition to the area!
