Maiale believes that the difference between us and the rest are the unique combinations and flavors of sausage and salami. We make over 30 different varieties of fresh sausage and over 10 different types of salami. We create the best hand crafted salumi i
Maiale has been making outstanding sausages and ground meats for years now. Their old storefront was a bit of a challenge with a small parking lot and difficult entrance off of Lancaster Ave. I have relied on their presence at local farmersâ markets to indulge my cravings. Now that Maiale has relocated to this odd little strip mall further west on Lancaster, there is now a compelling reason not only to shop for their specialty products, but to stay a while in their spacious dining room. Itâs only open for breakfast and lunch, and you can get carry out for dinner since they close at 6. There is a casual vibe here, and seems to be popular with kids from neighboring Wilmington Charter/Cab Calloway. With such high quality preparation, Iâm a little surprised Maiale does not offer a dinner menu. I know Iâve made some fabulous meals at home with their products.

I bought the first sub from this establishment in 1957 ( from Philomena). I have until this day frequented this Italian shop as much as possible when in the vicinity. The submarine sandwiches are absolutely the best and, I have traveled the world including Italy and have yet to find a better sub sandwich. I knew Mr.Lou Cassapula , the founder, who was an immigrant and an exceptionally hard worker.. I knew his family too. They are the salt of the earth. Their discipline for making the best was instilled in them by Lou and though he has passed the ethic lives on. Anyone who is in the Delaware area must go the Elsmere steak shop and buy either a sub or a steak sandwich. Believe me when I say they are the best- no one has the discipline nor the management capable of making these culinary gifts over decades- only the Cassapulas' do. Bless them for what they have brought to our hungry citizens lucky enough to frequent the place. Need I say more - do not meet me there ;beat me there. It is the best world over. Buy the Italian sub or the cheese steak and enjoy.

We stopped for lunch nearby to Nemours. What a fun place. Full of Elvis memorabilia so felt comfortable given my Memphis roots. Had a sausage and pepper sub. Delicious. 12 inch was more than big enough to split along with French fries with Old Bay seasoning. Server also made me a great Arnold Palmer with fresh made lemonade. We'd eat there again in a heartbeat.
I must have been crazy to not have stopped at Three D's. I ordered the cheese steak large sub. It is big. Add items to sub. The finely ground steak is great. It won't be so long next time. Great service too
