Five of us had a wonderful meal at Le Bistrot d'Epicure. It was busy on the Saturday night and glad we had booked. The service was outstanding from beginning to end, and each dish was of the highest calibre, beautifully cooked and presented. They were also more than willing to cook steak for one of us very well done yet the quality of the meat was so good it lost none of its moisture, tenderness and taste. If in the Dordogne region I would strongly recommend having a meal here.

Wanted non tourist place, typically French.Found it.Arrived 15 minutes early and were suitably chastised by grim waitress, the only one there. Sat outside under awning full of water next to plastic bucket with dying weeds in. This sat next to a climbing rose 50% of which was dead. . The wall of the dining room was exposed chipboard stuck all round with polystyrene expanding glue. Above us strung under the awning full of water hung a string of light bulbs, most of them blown.A party of 4 came and left straight away ,then 7 came in , sat down and then got up and left. It was strangely entertaining. The remaining customers spoke in hushed tones waiting to be served. I asked for vodka tonic, no vodka, no gin , no tonic., ok water. We both had salt cod starter, strong on salt! Then we had pork. The pork was cooked ok, nearly as nice as I have at home . The accompanying variety of exotic vegetables and flowers were not to my taste, but what do I know.It was expensive, devoid of ambience , shabby and I was sad that I had taken my dear wife hear thinking it might be special.

Gueule et Gosier is a great find, tucked away on a side-street in Sarlat-la-Canéda. We were surprised with the quality of the food, great presentation and wide range of options. The duck appetiser was simply amazing. Duck pie and Pork Belly was also excellent. The seating is on the side street on either side of the side walk - so expect some pedestrian traffic walking through. Although, with the surrounding buildings, the dinner setting was still in a nice ambiance.Service was friendly and fast. We were a table of seven and all food was delivered together in a timely fashion.Overall, highly enjoyed our dinner experience here!

One of the joys of visiting France is small restaurants serving extraordinary food. L'Esperence is one of these that surprised and delighted our group of 4. From a beautiful collection of amuse-bouche to open, to appetizers and main courses that ranged from pigeon to foie gras to fish to beef, every course was beautifully presented, perfectly put together, and delicious. With some unfortunate dietary restrictions (dairy and gluten), eating in France can be frustrating when serving and cooking staff promise accommodations but then forget. The chef got everything right, and it was our best meal of the month we had in France. Highly recommended.
