Went with family for a pre-DPAC event. This was my first time to The Refectory. It's a great area of Durham, close to downtown. Someone said casual elegance and I can't agree more. I can't believe they do breakfast, lunch and dinner. We had calamari to start, excellent. I had the salmon, another had the grouper and one other had the vegetable ratatouille. I tasted all three and they were all great. I will return. Great job. The waitress was very nice and attentive. A very good experience.Thank you Bob & family! We are thrilled that you were so delighted and appreciated our "casual elegance". Yes, we are open 7-days a week. Closed only on Sunday nights so staff gets a chance to rest up and spend time with family and friends! We have an amazing staff and so happy that you had such a great experience. Thanks for letting folks know! We look forward to serving you again very soon!:-)Laura

We celebrated my wife's birthday with "Afternoon High Tea"- what a lovely setting located in the Washington Duke Inn for such a nice cozy event. We were six adults & one child; everyone totally enjoyed this old English style tradition. We started with delicious Warm Scones, served w/ Honey, Jelly & a wonderful Clotted Cream, the only problem was they didn't serve the Tea until we were almost finished w/ the Scones. It would have been nice if it were all together. Our server, Nate E. did a fantastic job of presenting & explaining the various Finger Sandwiches & Pastries, all of which were outstanding & delicious. They even prepared a separate Gluten-Free tray for my Daughter-in-Law who has gluten allergies. You have a nice variety of Choices for your Tea. They thoughtfully recognized my wife's birthday w/ a delicious dessert w/ a candle. Nate also assisted in taking Group family pictures & directed us to some excellent backgrounds for the photos. After the tea we strolled around both the building & the grounds. We look forward to going back for lunch or dinner sometime.

Piedmont Restaurant has cultivated a loyal following by creating an adventurous, seasonal dining experience in the heart of downtown Durham. We shine a light on foods harvested and raised in North Carolina, including from our sister farm in Hillsborough,
This is our third visit to The Piedmont. We were expecting a better selection of food but were satisfied with what we were limited to. The wife's fish chowder had lots of fish parts, including heads, but definitely lacked shrimp. More bread should have accompanied the dish as the broth was very thin. The pork chop was adequate in size but the sides were a bit skimpy given the price point. Service was adequate.
