Historically within the West Riding of Yorkshire, it is situated on the River Calder, 4 miles (6.4 km) east of Halifax. It is served by Junction 25 of the M62 motorway and Brighouse railway station on the Caldervale Line and Huddersfield Line. In the town centre is a mooring basin on the Calder and Hebble Navigation. The United Kingdom Census 2001 gave the Brighouse / Rastrick subdivision of the West Yorkshire Urban Area a population of 32,360. The Brighouse ward of Calderdale Council gave a population of 11,195 at the 2011 Census.

My second time here but Iâd been looking forward to it all week. Just like last time, a lovely warm welcome and I chose the special which was a spicy caprese and a pint of the beer on tap. Both were delicious.I canât fault this place. Itâs easily my favourite place in Halifax right now and Iâm looking forward to having more visits to P&P and trying more things on the menu.Thank you so much for joining us. Firstly can I say that the staff here are friendly and the menu is varied and the main meals we had were very tasty. The problems we encountered however seem to be common in that various meals on the menu were not in stock or available, so we had to look at alternatives. Our two desserts were nice but Luke warm not hot and again desired items were not available, so the pub lost out on starter orders and dessert orders.I was disappointed as we had friends over from America who wanted a traditional English pub meal with certain items that were on the menu but as mentioned not available. We also waited around an hour to get our food served even though we had reserved a table, there needs fo be improvements to tempt us back.

One overnight stay at the Holiday Inn (Brighouse) which provided spacious comfortable accommodation and a choice of bar food or restaurant fayre in the Cow on the Hill. Opted for the Baked Camembert with toasted sour dough bread and it went down a treat. OK it may be a little expensive at £7.25 for a starter but it was worth it. For mains I chose the daily special southern fried chicken burger which was indeed, special. It came with house made coleslaw and fries which made a large portion of food. Washed down with a couple of pints of Shipyard Ale this was a good experience in pleasant surroundings with great friendly staff. The hotel is a bit off the beaten track and hence their restaurant probably has limited clientele, but it is well worth finding if you want a relaxing unrushed meal in pleasant surroundings.

What a fabulous little cafe! Tasteful, contemporary décor, absolutely delicious meal cooked by owner David, delightful ambience, convenient location with parking directly outside. Fantastic coffee machine. An absolute gem of a cafe/restaurant, which aims for and achieves high quality food, drink and customer service. Wish I lived a bit closer - I'd be a regular. Thanks for making my friends' engagement meal so special.
