A no frills little restaurant if you drove past you would see queues of people being served (and very quickly to). The food is authentic, the owner having spent many years out Far East with his Malaysian wife (I think). The food is delicious with a great choice, and not to expensive too. It is eat all you want for a set price, and believe me a couple of platefuls of different food will suffice anyone. There is plenty of room for parking on surrounding streets.
Hetton Cantonese is the only Chinese take away for me. Ken us always very obliging. His sweet and sour chicken with fried rice is second to non and the Cantonese style one is even better. My other half likes the king prawn curry with fried rice and here the king prawns are really king size. Sometimes we have the chicken chow mein also but we find usually that the portions are so large this is not required. The only downside to this terrific takeaway is that if doesn't deliver.this on the other hand I my case thus could be a good point as we would have to have a takeaway every day. I give this take away ten out of ten for hygiene, fast service and naturally excellent food.

Noted no one had left a review for A Lo takeaway, felt compelled to write one. This is an established family chinese takeaway, which I have used for over 40 years and also by my children who are now in their 30's. Never disappointed, excellent quality of food, wide variety of choice of menu, take orders over phone. Have tried other chinese takeways in and around the area, but will say none as good as A Lo, this has to be best in Houghton - le Spring area.

This is my nearest Chinese take away and I've used it often. I have to say that it's nothing to look at but the House special chow mein is (in my opinion) the best around this region that I've had. It's served in a round foil tray so is plentiful and is always bursting at the top (easily feed two comfortably). They provide a delivery service at a small cost. The staff are professional but need cheering up! I would definitely recommend the Special Chow Mein...try it!
