Kost Bar Am See

Nice location overviewing the Bostalsee.Inside nothing too fancy, but clean and spacious. Staff is friendly. The food is traditionally German. We've had better but a schnitzel is hard mess up. Don't expect too much, but if you're in for an easy cheap meal, this place will easily do.

Felsenmuhle

Every once in awhile you come across an out of the way place that is just great and the Felsenmuehle is one. I was visiting a friend in St. wendel that suggested we go here for lunch. The ambiance is comfortable country furnishings in an old mill. The staff was right there to show us a nice table, bring menus (english is available), and point out the day's special. We both went with the special of turkey medallions served with spaetzle (German noodles), cheese sauce, and salad. The lunch was well presented and excellent to eat and all for a very reasonable 8 Euros. Service continued to be very good throughout the meal. I will be back!

Cafe Journal

Noticed there has not been an English review for sometime at Cafe Journal so thought I would write one after visiting for dinner on 2 consecutive days. In good weather the place is usually busy outside. Note that table booking can only be had inside the restaurant, outside it’s first come, first served. We visited as a 4 the first day. 3 had small pizzas and I had a simple weinen schnitzle with Fries. The fries were great but the schnitzel had been sitting a bit before being served which made it a bit soggy. It also arrived 10 mins before the pizzas which was a bit pointless. Pizzas were lacking in toppings but were otherwise ok.Second visit was as a couple. Another pizza but a large one this time. Much better this time with a generous topping. Also had a baguette which was very good. Service both days was slick and attentive.

Visited during the Mittelalterlicher Weihnachtsmarkt - Medeval Christmas Market - and it was a magical time. Very crowded, but worth it, as the food was great and atmosphere ever better. The castle was in ruins but has been restored to a degree, and worth a visit. I had the venison (deer) sandwich which came with Palatine spaetzli which is a regional version from the Palatine region of Germany.
