We booked a table on the street only to be ushered to the back courtyard area which had zero atmosphere despite being full. After some very hard negotiation we managed to get our rightful spot. Bit odd really given there were free tables throughout our dinner. Not a great start and left a bitter taste in the mouth which was thankfully assuaged by some pretty good uncomplicated fresh food cooked well. Croatian cuisine is on the whole pretty poor but this place offers hope. The service good and ambience on the steps excellent. Worth a visit.

A few nights previous to tonight, my wife and I stumbled upon Paradies Garden and went in for a glass of wine and cheese and meat platter as we weren't particularly hungry and it's a lovely-looking place. The food was okay, nothing spectacular but fine for what we were after. The girl at the entrance is genuine, super sweet and accommodating, full marks to her. We had other places in mind for dinner the next couple of nights (both of which were fantastic - Macondo and Dalmatino, amazing food and wonderful, attentive service) and on our final night didn't have a plan so decided to return to Paradies Garden for a proper dinner. This was despite a couple of locals we'd befriended telling us it's no good. This was our mistake.A summary of our subsequent meal in bullet points:⢠Greeted by aforementioned girl at entrance, as lovely as ever.⢠Given a table which was a tight squeeze but happy enough.⢠Given menus by friendly waiter on arrival.⢠10 - 15 minutes later, despite not being busy, finally asked if we'd like a drink⢠Ordered drinks and food (starters: fish soup and pasta with sun-dried tomatoes, mains: grilled prawns and a rib eye steak, drinks: 2 glasses house red)⢠Food arrived after a standard length of time, no problem⢠Pasta: homemade as we'd been told and relatively tasty⢠Fish soup: very disappointing - tepid, water-like broth with some microscopic bits of white fish and carrot in it, tasteless. Oliver Twist would have asked for less rather than more.⢠Wine pretty good⢠The side salad and peppercorn sauce arrived.⢠10 minutes later, as the peppercorn sauce approached tepidness, the accompanying steak arrived, as well as the 'prawns'. Apologies from waiter for delay.⢠The prawns: were more like langoustines, which might sound an expected bonus, but punctured my wife's finger as she tried to open them from their armadillo-like, pronged shells and inside was almost cold, lank flesh, we think may have been still partially raw. (Frozen and defrosted?)⢠The steak: horrible - chewy, full of muscle and gristle and very hard to eat.⢠Having struggled through a quarter of the steak at most before giving up, I asked the gentleman next to me what he thought of his as he'd coincidentally ordered the same. He'd also eaten little and thought it was terrible. He reminded me that this was also a very expensive steak at 180 kuna, and that for the equivalent elsewhere in Croatia and around the world you'd expect a tender, melt in the mouth piece of meat.⢠Accompanying 'crispy potatoes' were in fact undercooked and tasteless potato wedges.⢠Due to not only our experience but that of the gentleman who had dined next to us, I thought when asked "was everything okay?" by the waiter I would politely tell him that sadly it wasn't. I started by saying obviously a) this was not his fault in any way and this feedback was purely to help them improve for future customers and b) we were not doing so in expectation of any monetary recompense (though I did think perhaps as this was the second complaint about the same dish in the past 10 minutes they might offer something). It must be added again that this is an expensive restaurant.⢠Waiter was very apologetic (though we stressed this was not necessary on his part - we put the long periods of lack of service down to understaffing).⢠We were then left for a good 15 - 20 minutes with nothing, we were not asked if we wanted dessert or coffee or the bill. Nada. We, in hindsight stupidly, thought he might be discussing with the chef/owner and then come to chat about our dissatisfaction.⢠Finally we managed to get his attention and ask for the bill.⢠5 - 10 minutes later it arrived.⢠Previously friendly, apologetic waiter had now changed his tune (perhaps as he felt a tip would no longer be coming - it, in fact, would have been despite at times negligent service) and words of any kind were now non-existent.⢠We paid the bill and left with no goodbye or acknowledgement at all from the waiter or manager. We were given a couple of shots of something whisky-like.⢠Lesson to be learnt for us? Listen to locals, they often seem to have it nailed on, especially in a small place like Hvar Town.

Amazing and cozy hidden gem in the heart of Hvar. It's a family owned restaurant and you can right away feel the warmth in their smile and the comfort in their food. Their private backyard makes you feel like you're in Greece with the white walls and the ambiance. They have live music on Thursday (that's when we went) and the singer has such a nice voice that would make you melt while enjoying the food you're eating. We had the caprese salad to start and it was delicious. You have to try the shrimp risotto and the octopus. You can feel the freshness of the seafood and the love they put in their cooking. The staff is super friendly and the whole experience was fantastic. They offered us their homemade cherry grappa at the end of the meal which was beyond amazing. I would definitely come back to this romantic restaurant and would recommend it to anyone who is visiting Hvar. It's great for everyone; family, friends and couples.Thank you for choosing our restaurant. I hope to see you again. Zlatna Å koljka

Weâve been travelling around Croatia for a month and thought weâd experienced the best in Rogonacka (Dilda) but this place beats them all. And the service is fantastic too. If coming by boat do book ahead of time as the mooring buoys are taken days ahead of time in the season. The mackerel pate was amazing, as was the chocolate desert but the best was the octopus brodoto: wow!We went back several times for a meal and several times for drinks while we were there (great cocktails too).
