Reviews on British food in Durness, Scotland, United Kingdom. If you’re hungry for a remote vacation in a stunning Scottish Highland, Durness is your perfect destination. Check out the seawater cum freshwater marvel of Smoo Cave, which features a waterfall and active marine life, including porpoises and seals. The northern sand dunes are a whirlwind of puffin activity. Durness was of particular significance to John Lennon, and supposedly inspired the Beatles song "In My Life."

We visited the restaurant for an evening meal whilst staying in Durness for one night whilst driving The North Coast 500 with friends. Our table was booked for 7pm. We arrived early (at 6.45pm) but were shown straight to our table. We were served with drinks promptly and our meal choices were taken shortly afterwards. By By 7.45pm we were enquiring about our meals as they had not arrived. The waitress told us that they were very busy as a lot of people had entered the bar and had ordered food!! She was politely reminded that we had booked the table for 7pm and that we didn't think that it was acceptable to serve people who had suddenly filled the bar first. By 8.15pm we were still awaiting the arrival of our meals. We then spoke to a different waitress explaining the problem and asked her to speak to the management for us. She promptly headed for the kitchen slamming her order pad down on the dresser on her way!!!! Not the attitude to show customers surely? Our food did arrive by 8.30pm (a full hour and a half after out table booking time) and was quite delicious. Lovely food but shame about the poor level of service.

We didn't know what to expect from this tiny restaurant (12 tables), but we had a great meal. Our superb and switched on waitress (Kate?) made sure everyone was welcomed and seated promptly. She made gentle recommendations after enquiring what we liked. (Dessert not on display: if you like cheesecake; have still have some etc)The food was home-cooked style and there is room for some improvements as my vegetables were a little too dark and the sauce with my steak a little thin. However the staff worked as team and have passion for what they do, so that made our evening special and deserved them four stars

As one of the few places to go in Durness, it does get busy (especially at peak times). It's right next to the caravan site near to the beach. The pub serves a range of alcohol. There is also a restaurant on the side that you can buy food at (although it shuts much earlier than the bar). The salmon and potatoes were pretty nice and the salmon was very well cooked. Main courses range from about £10-15. There is also a surprisingly good wine list to accompany the food.Overall, if you're staying in Durness and want somewhere to go for a few drinks or a decent meal without having to walk, this is probably your best bet!

I had been trying to catch this little café open for about a year and finally did so this week. Sadly, I was bitterly disappointed with what I found: Although the eating area was clean and tidy, the toilets were rather unpleasant. The gents toilet pan was unclean, with poo smears under the seat and yellow particles at the seat/pan junction. My wife said that the ladies were also in a poor state of cleanliness. We only had tea but although plentiful, it was made from what can only have been the cheapest of catering tea bags. As noted by another reviewer ..."The sole member of staff was a very dour woman who barely spoke...". Had it not been for the appearance of a friendly Australian Motorcyling couple, our visit would have been a totally miserable experience.
