Itâs been 10 years since we were last on Symi but both Lefteris and Yianni recognised us even with two dogs in tow this time. Itâs lovely to see the Kafelion passing to the next generation through the eldest son and you still receive the same warm welcome. I love this place - please donât ever change - genuine authenticity is hard to come by these days.

Great place for a relaxing drink with the local expats who are "living the dream".The friendly owners Claudia and Kevin will make you feel at home with some delicious snacks, my favourites were the bacon butty and the fish-finger sandwich.Be warned they have 2 dogs and 7 cats but they get on very well together. So if you want some live music(sat'), local gossip and some freeinformation about Symi, call in.The Sunrise Cafe can be found near the Windmill Restaurant.

We always go to the Stella Bar to see Vasilis (the owner) and have a chat over a few G&T's. The bar is situated midway along the harbourside where you can watch the variety of boats mooring throughout the afternoon and evening. There is an extensive cocktail menu and the prices are reasonable. The staff are friendly and helpful and speak good English. Open all day for coffee or beer etc. this is one of the best bars on the island.

Unusually for Symi the waiting staff at this restaurant aren't particularly welcoming or friendly. We visited the beach & paid â¬4 for the use of the sunbeds - the setting is amazing - having spent time on the shingle beach we decided to have lunch at the cafe at the entrance - the food was plentiful and ok but let down by moody & grumpy servers. A smile or friendliness costs nothing.
