We visited Sushi Yama last week in the early evening. Plenty of seating was available. Atmosphere was quiet and pleasant New Age music was playing.My wife and I chose the Hari Bento Box dinners which came with a plain lettuce salad and miso soup. Service was good. The food assortment in the box dinners was nice, but I've had better Teriyaki chicken ( it was over cooked) and sushi elsewhere. The tempura was good and so was the shumai. Wine selections were inexpensive and decent. For an inexpensive meal, it was ok, but not exciting.

The restaurant is spacious. The menu is varied, you can have many combinations for the traditional teppanyaki. Meat, scallops, chicken and vegetables with the fried rice. The show is the entertainment apart, tricks with the fire, with vegetable chops and "shooting" sake into the mouth. The food is normal, quite a good portion. The staff do play to their abilities.

This place is a local favorite. It has a lovely atmosphere, a good menu, a moderately fast kitchen and a lovely family that runs it. My only complaint was that the food had a uniformly slightly burned flavor to it. The "Hei" Breath of their Wok (look it up) produced food this way. The offending Wok needs a good cleaning or to be thrown out. Regards, OldeBear

I feel this is the best tasting food in the Middletown area. I've been eating from this restaurant for several years off and on and compared to the other "Chinese" places in the area, they have the best tasting food around. They even have on line ordering and that's a good thing!
