Good Friend Chinese Restaurant

We have been patrons of Good Friend for about 6 years. From our experience it is common for the quality of food in Chinese restaurants to deteriorate over time, but not so with Good Friend. Nothing fancy but very good.

On-line reviews convinced us this would be a special place to dine on our visit to Morgantown, PA. Zou's Garden came well recommended by locals too. So we tried it on a Monday evening. We had to do take-out rather than dine-in; saw about 10 people waiting for take-out & took this as a good sign. We found the food uneven in quality. Scallion pancakes [on the menu called Chinese pizza] fully delivered on the hype. Flaky and light, these compared with Hong Kong’s best!! A house special veggie ma fun—portion large enough for 4 people--- needed additional sauce but otherwise—above average quality and flavor. Veg kung paw [meatless chicken], again a very large porton, lacked even hints of peanut butter, peanuts or discernable chilis to our palates. The protein, whatever it was, overcoated in a gooey, gummy batter disappointed. Both plain rice [with the inevitable frozen peas] and fried rice sides exhibited adequate texture & flavor. Veggie spring rolls tasteless though wrapper nicely fried. The very friendly & accommodating staff impressed us favorably. An amazing Flowerhorn cichlid fish lives in an aquarium inside the restaurant—f you’ve never seen one, it’s worth a stop just to see him!!

I generally find some redeeming quality in my reviews. And the redeeming quality here is that they serve fortune cookies and provide chopsticks. This is a lousy place for Chinese food. I ordered Sweet and Sour Chicken, Beef and Broccoli, General Tso Chicken, Pepper Beef and Noodles. I ordered white rice, but received fried rice. The food was greasy and had a flavor reminiscent of melted Styrofoam.Seating is very limited, and parking is very tight on the side of the building in a narrow lot. I will not eat here again, but I will drive to neighboring Morgantown or Elverson the next time I want Chinese for dinner.

Food was very good , clean and very friendly owners?? Or workers. More of a Take Out place. No real atmosphere just a strip mall store front with four or so tables to eat at. If your looking for fine dining, table cloths and good food presentation then this is not the place. If your looking for real good food ( not great ) with no bells and whistles then here’s your place.... in my opinion. Every one has a different taste. It’s a BYOB. They had no wine opener or wine glasses but were VERY FRIENDLY and went and got an opener and gave us cups for the wine. It all worked out well, good food , good wine and Great friends. Would eat there again, but just for take out not to dine in.
