This place is much more than a small town restaurant. Easy to find, friendly folks, home made food in a historical setting. The building has been there since 1905 and went through many transitions until the current owners restored it to its original glory. The town itself has some beautiful buildings. Now to the food. The place is open from Monday Through Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. They have daily specials, burgers, sandwiches, salads, homemade desserts. I ordered a cheeseburger with their house made Jalapeño Pimento Cheese. Had a side of chili cheese fries. Shared with hubby. The bun was toasted, lightly buttered with grill marks on it. The hamburger patty was fresh and hand patted. It was cooked perfectly. The veggies on it were the usual and very good. See my picture for the pimento cheese topped burger. The flecks of finely chopped fresh jalapeño complimented the pimento cheese but did not overwhelm. It was one of the best I have had. The chili cheese fries was a large serving; more than enough for two. It was amply covered with the housemate Texas style chili. No beans, no tomatoes, just meat, seasonings and chili powder. It complimented the rest of the meal without overwhelming with chili flavor. When you finish your meal browse around for pictures of the building and how it was transformed. They pride themselves in house made foods. I definitely will return on the way back to San Antonio.

Went there for lunch today and had the enchiladas on the buffet. They were dried out and hard. Then the waitress only came back to give us our check and my drink was empty for a long time. Then she never brought me the dessert that the sign said (comes with the buffet). Total disappointment!

No, this isn't a hamburger joint nor does it serve standard country restaurant fare. It does have hamburger steak, chicken fried steak etc. but they truly excel with their lunch specials. Today's special was pork roast or chicken fried steak, both with gravy. Both came with celery soup, steamed broccoli and rice prima verde. All were very good to delicious. The lunch price of $10 included the soup, drink, and tax. The restaurant is very clean and the waitstaff provided very friendly and excellent service. We will definitely return.

Sandwich dinner. I like a LOT of meat on my sandwich. Normally you can hardly tell it has meat on it at Subway. They really should change that. So I alwas need to order extra on extra. with a high extra price. I do not put all the other junk on it Meat and cheese. like a sandwich should be.
