Its located on a hill across the street from a colonial church. The restaurante is in a colonial house. Very small and cozy wine cellar. It has a back yard with an amazing view. The food is awesome, I would suggest the picanha (top sirloin), and is one of the few places in the region where they will cook it as you please. Could have a bigger variety of cocktails, but regarding wines there are several varieties and brands both local and imported to Bolivia. I definitely recommend to visit when you are in Tarija or passing near by.

Carlos has assembled virtually all the wines available in Bolivia. He is knowledgeable about the different wines, the history of wine making in Bolivia (as well as Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay). You will find many bottles of fine Bolivian wine to purchase at very good prices. If you are in Tarija, I would recommend you stop in La Vinoteca.

When I am travelling it is not often that I return to a restaurant, (however good) as time does not allow. However Cavas de Altura served superior steak, much much better than the up market restaurant in a close by square. Great selection of wine, and that is what I love about eating out in Bolivia. Sadly Bolivian wines are not available in UK, but I am working on that! In the mean time their steak here is First Class.
