Consistently good and fresh, even after waiting 30 minutes on Friday night for a table. Our favorites were the cashew chicken and vegetable fried rice with tofu. Not so fond of the Genghis Khan Beef - it was shredded or ground up (we expected actual strips of beef). Plenty of parking in the strip mall lot.

North of town on the way to the airport (in La Dolce Piazza), Mekkala is in the top tier of the 8 or 9 thai/vietnamese restaurants in Chico. The setting is the most peaceful and attractive; the restaurant interior is large, peaceful, and invites lingering after your meal. Full and recognizable menu with spiciness options a bit more substantial than elsewhere. Portion sizes are ample and generous; and beverage selections are the best of any of the cohort establishments. I particularly like these folks for evening meal, because its elegant and exotic enough to make for a place to take friends; but it absolutely won't kill the budget. Great seating and wait staff. Family run so they care.

I eat here a lot (five times last month). Thai basil is a wonderful lunch place. Always busy. Seating, service, attention during the meal, and accuracy in orders and meal prep are stellar. Meats are always properly prepared, well cooked and nicely spiced. Sauces are a particularly strong suit of this restaurant, with great Thai Basil, curries, pad thai, and sea food variations of all of these cooked to perfection. I like the place because its clean, and it allows for conversation, which explains why everyone here is doing a business lunch! Evenings are solid as well, though I find the ambiance at night a bit sterile. But for an under $10 meal that will keep you going all day, you can't beat the fresh vegetables, tasty meats and tofu, and friendly smile.
