There are some restaurants you need to revisit to reassure yourself they are as good as you have experienced previously. SONO is an exceptional restaurant that achieves 10/10 on every level. Lunch today was exceptional. The service exceptional. The atmosphere exceptional. The food 11/10. It is a place to relax away from the hustle and bustle of the busy CBD. Parking is easy. Close to Brisbane’s International and Domestic Airport. This quote best sums up SONO....”At its best, Japanese cooking is inextricably meshed with aesthetics, with religion, with tradition and history. It is evocative of seasonal changes, or of one’s childhood, or of a storm at sea.”

We went there on a monday night and it was packed. They took our phone number and gave us a call when a table was free, abut half an hour. I had the OMG scallops and they were excellent. For mains I had the "Mexican" ceviche and my wife had combination sashimi. Both meals were very fresh and tasted great. Washed down with some house sake it was a great dinner. Highly recommended.Hi sharkbait_twoThank you for visiting us and writing the review. It was really busy Monday night .Our hard working waitress work first like a Makybe Diva. But sorry for taking half hour wait.We great to hear you enjoy our local seafood especially yellow fin Tuna from Great Barrier Reef .Hope see you again when you back to Cairns next time !

Kushi Yakitori Bar & Japanese Restaurant

The restaurant is wonderfully decorated, located on the second floor with a balcony facing the beach. We had Sushi and Skewers options and loved both of them, very fresh with very good quality. Only downside is the very expensive Japanese beer (~14 AUD / 330ml). Well, I thought, it's a long way from Japan and at least I am paying for a good Asahi in Japanese quality, but was shocked when I saw that the beer was made in China. That mark-up is definitely too high and should be reconsidered.
