4 of us went in for lunch. Two of us had the haggis and cheese panini. Not an obvious filling for a panini but absolutely delicious. The other two had soup which was equally good. The service was friendly and the menu varied. Don’t be fooled by its ranking, it has not been open long. I am sure it won’t be long before it occupies the number one slot.

We were "out for drive" on a wet Saturday.. actually to Castle Douglas... but could find NOWHERE suitable there to have lunch. We meandered toward Kircudbright and passed thru Dundrennan.. I was about to say, "We'll get nothing here" when we came across the Crown and Anchor. WHAT A MARVELLOUS FIND. The food was home cooked and very well presented and served quickly, ( and the place was busy). The surrounding were spotless and beautifully cared for. The proprietors were very welcoming and friendly. We opted for the toasted sandwiches which were superbly cooked and presented, and tea/coffee ( free refills - were offered)If you live locally.. please support this little gem of a place... if you don't go and search it out. WE will be back. If I could give them 7 of of 5 I would. PS we didn't have room for cake.. but they looked superb.

Loch Arthur

We went here as my husband had been here before and said it was great.Incidentally it was our wedding anniversary.Firstly the positives-the staff were friendly and the tables were clean. We were seated as soon as a table became available and they took our order-so far so good. The food was not good-we had chicken and sweetcorn soup which was basically water with no sign of any chicken and one kernel of sweetcorn.I then had a roast beef sandwich which was very fatty. It also had gherkins on which was bizarre, especially as it had no mustard and none was offered.Trying to get the attention of a waitress to order dessert and coffee was very difficult. After 15 minutes we managed to flag one down and ordered. Then she totally forgot about us so 20 minutes later my husband asked about our order and she hadn't even put it through as they were busy!By this time i had had enough,I am in a half leg cast and could no longer bear to sit and wait so we just went without. At the checkout we voiced our complaints and they gave us a couple of complimentary biscuits as if that would make up for the fiasco. We won't be returning.I'm so sorry we let you down so badly, especially on your wedding anniversary. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy the food on this occasion and I am especially sorry that our service wasn't up to its usual high standard. I'm afraid we had an unusually busy day on Monday and our till system let us down at a critical moment causing a backlog of orders. It's good to know that your husband's previous experience had been good and I sincerely hope that you will give us another try sometime.
