To be honest, we weren't sure what this place was until I went to order. Basically, the sell nothing but whole smoked fish, accompanied by a slice of German bread, and a wedge of lime. You can also get pickles and others as extra, but we went for the simplest of the dishes. I'm never been a big fan of smoked anything, but then this place changed my mind of how a smoked fish should taste like; it was warm, moist, tender, juicy and with a hint of smoky flavour all in one.I don't think I need to recommend this place as everyone who's passing through Rathen appeared to stop by.

We enjoyed dinner here twice. There was a good selection of items all very well prepared. Portions were generous. We liked our server very much, she was most professional and looked after us. We asked her to save our bottle of wine which we had not finished for the following night which she was happy to do.There is a hand written English translation of the menu which is helpful for non-German speaking guests

I came here with my German family from Pirna. We first sat outside which was wonderful except for the road noise. As our group grew, we eventually had to move inside. It was just as nice and even quieter. The food and service were excellent. The waiters were very kind and professional. I had the daily special- flounder with shrimp and speck (bacon). Now, you can add shrimp and bacon to anything and it will taste good, but this fish was great on its own and the accoutrements just made it even better. Cue the fried potatoes and the green beans and you end up with a symphony of flavor. My cousin and I tried several of the beers. The Keller beer on tap, then the Atlantic and the Arctic ales in bottles. I wish they were all on tap but alas, you canât have everything. They were all very good, the arctic being particularly to my liking, in spite of the â¬6.50 price tag. I also had the chocolate raspberry dessert with vanilla ice cream. Turns out it was a fabulous chocolate fondant. In summary, this meal was excellent in every way.
