Met with some friends to celebrate a birthday midweek. For starters we tried the Pate (which was gorgeous) and the Mushrooms in Stroganoff sauce which were also very tasty. For main, three of us had the Trout which everyone enjoyed and I had the Battered Cod off the main menu with chips (which was very fresh and tasty). Compliments to the chef Simeon as we all enjoyed it as usual. As they close during the week after lunch, we didn't have desert as we were the last people in there so we went nextdoor instead for coffee and cake. Unfortunately, it was chucking it down with rain so we didn't manage our usual little stroll around The Knap. One of these days we must try their Sunday Lunch which sounds good too. We have been several times now and every time the food is great.

So great food, compliments to the chefs. We were a big group for a birthday. All started well, got our food then nothing. Nobody came round to check on us or ask us for any more drinks for the whole time we were there. After weâd all finished and waited for 40mins we had to ask someone to clear the table and get dessert menus. By this point half the group had had to leave. 20mins later, no dessert menus and the girl whoâd started to clear the table had gone on to doing something else. Again I had to get up and ask someone to finish it. Finally clear we again had to ask for the 7th time for dessert menus. I mean come on- big group why would you just abandon the table, couldâve made a lot more money from the table with drinks and desserts but they didnât care. Lots of people in the restaurant were annoyed waiting for bills or desserts, couple next to our group had to leave as theyâd waited so long to order a dessert theyâd ran out of time and babysitter was due to leave. Funny thing is the place was half full, dread to think what itâs like on a busy day.Food was lovely but priced a bit too high for what it is and given the service.Waitressing Staff have bad attitudes and clearly donât care, need some serious training. Wonât be returning because of this. Itâs a shame, the lady who I think was the owner was clearly blind to how her staff operate.Dear Mr Norris,Thank you for taking the time to review the Beech Tree and I was disturbed to read that your experience with us did not meet our usual standards. After conducting a full investigation into your complaint and speaking with the Lady 'Duty Manager' you've mentioned in your review it seems an element of confusion may have arisen between your party and the floor staff.During the arrival of your party a lady within the group handed a birthday cake to one of the floor staff requesting that we keep it until after your main courses. It therefore appears that some wires may have been crossed as the staff were lead to be believe that the birthday cake would follow the main courses as a dessert course. As you mention in your review - ..'All started well, got our food then nothing'.. The reason for which i believe is due to the fact that my staff appear to have been waiting for the 'Nod' to serve the birthday cake. You also mention in your review that your party were not offered anymore drinks upon clearing of their main courses. I think this may be due to the fact that your party of 17 people arrived separately over a time scale of nearly an hour, some of which were over 30 mins late for the booking time. The majority ordered and paid for their drinks individually at the bar and it appears that this precedent continued throughout the starter course and main course. You've also mentioned that a 'lot of other people' in the restaurant were annoyed due to a wait yet on the night in question the majority of all our customers (many of which are very regular) appeared happy with the level of service provided. In relation to your comment regarding the staff having a 'bad attitude' i can reassure you that many of our staff including many of those working during your visit have been trained rigorously and commended by many of our customers new and old as can be seen by the majority of the reviews on TripAdvisor. It is unfortunate that that you felt unable to voice these concerns to the Duty Manager in question despite her spending over 20 minutes politely talking to you and your wife at the end of the meal. However i would be more than happy to discuss this with you personally at further length if you'd be prepared to email the restaurant. Despite the problems you've mentioned in your review I was happy to read that your party thoroughly enjoyed their food, all of which is sourced from local farms or suppliers and prepared freshly. Once again please accept my apologies for any inconvenience caused and I do hope that one day you might feel able to revisit the Beech Tree.Kind Regards,AB
Great value, fast and firendly service for those who need dinner on the go or fancy a treat. Close to the B and B I was staying in this was a great option without having to go far from where I was staying
