Shasta View Lodge

Reviewed By IBFROG

Living in a sparsely populated county in Northern California has its advantages and its drawbacks. One thing that we have often found lacking is a consistently good restaurant that we can look forward to visiting. The new Shasta View Lodge looks to be that restaurant. We dined there with another couple (our BFFs). My girlfriend is a retired chef and rarely has anything good to say about the restaurants that we frequent. Happily, we all found that our dinners were DELICIOUS with a capital "D"! From my eggplant parmesana to my husband's gourmet burger to my friend's seafood pasta, every dish was made with care and attention to quality and taste. The servings were big, especially the pasta dishes. My eggplant dish (served on a big bed of angel hair pasta) and the seafood pasta all provided a second meal the following day. We split a huge piece of cheesecake with a layer of fresh blackberry compote. It was incredibly decadent and rich. The interior of the restaurant is "lodge"/rustic cute with seating in either the restaurant area or the bar area. I was relieved to see/hear that our table (on the cusp of the bar) was not loud and that we were able to carry on conversations easily. I also noticed that there is an attractive outside patio with tables and a water feature. It was too hot the night that we dined at the Shasta View Lodge but certainly will eat outside when the weather permits. I also saw that there is a dance floor and a juke box off of the bar which might be fun for those looking for a little bar action and music on a weekend night. As for the staff at the Shasta View Lodge: our waitress (who also is one of the owners) was a delight! Aubrey is funny, sassy, and attentive. Her husband Scott is the chef and he receives our thanks for a wonderful meal and for providing a restaurant in a small community that all of us can be proud of. We will certainly return in the future to try something else on the menu.

This is the only restaurant in McCloud open every day. Next door to, and operated by the McCloud Hotel, this spacious and friendly bar/restaurant attracts a good crowd. Decent and filling menu selections, nice draft beer choices, and an active bar area adds to the appeal. $2 tacos on Tuesday brings in the crowd. Nice outdoor area overlooks hotel garden.

After an incredibly disappointing meal the night before at another establishment in Dunsmuir, this meal and experience more than made up for it! Quick and friendly service, incredibly delicious food, good beer (the Rusty Spike), outdoor seating, live music (guitar done beautifully). Kid and dog friendly. Lots of street parking making for a short walk to the restaurant. Definitely a hidden gem and well worth the stop. Helped make our anniversary celebration very enjoyable and memorable.
