The city is the county seat of McDuffie County. Thomson's nickname is "The Camellia City of the South", in honor of the thousands of camellia plants throughout the city. Thomson was founded in 1837 as a depot on the Georgia Railroad. It was renamed in 1853 for railroad official John Edgar Thomson and incorporated February 15, 1854 as a town and in 1870 as a city. It is part of the Augusta – Richmond County Metropolitan Statistical Area.

We are there after digging all day at Graves Mine. The atmosphere was great. Our party of five had great food and good times. Food was wonderful and plentiful!!we had two pizzaâs, lasagne, a sandwich and childâs meal of a chef pizza!!! Everyone enjoyed their meals and were stuffed when we left. Our waitress was very good. I do not remember her name we were so tired!! Here is a picture or two we took!!

Nothing (and I truly mean nothing) was open in Thomson on New Year's Eve (except fast food). After searching for a sit down restaurant for dinner and finding nothing open, we walked into Domino's and ordered a pizza. They delivered it to our hotel in less time than promised with salads. All in all, it was really good ... I am a fan of Domino's where I live and this lived up to my usual standards. I must admit there were very few choices that night but Domino's was a great find!

If you just have to eat something awful eat here. The waitress and staff were friendly unlike what others have stated. Food is just not good. The salad bar is a joke.
