Things to do in Decatur
Most pizza huts are average at best, but we had no other options (except for fast-food joints) for dinner so we went to this Pizza Hut for dinner while in town for one night. I will say that the server was very friendly and attentive (the only thing that brought this to average other than poor), but the food was lacking. The salad bar items weren't fresh and the breadsticks were hard and the pizza was just okay.

In a small town - there aren't many choices. At least there is a steady Pizza King in town. This one is a step above all the other Pizza Kings I've had. The crust was much better. It was still a thin crust, but just a little thicker than the others. I ordered 8 pizzas for a group and the best one was the Hawaiian, that used barbeque sauce.
Famous Monster Pizza is located in the old Niblick Building at the corner of Monroe and Second Street. They are nicely decorated to their monster theme, not only with posters, memorabilia, and statues, but also old "monster" movies playing for diners' enjoyment. The interior retains its history with great wood and brick accents. This restaurant is the brain child of Max Miller and his family. They are working hard to make this go. The restaurant itself is slightly small, located in the front portion of the main floor. They share this floor with the Next Page Bookstore & More. Our first venture was on Saturday evening, the week of their grand opening. We were not the only ones that wanted to give them a try. We waited about 40 minutes for a table. Once inside, the service was good. Our young waitress was very pleasant. She took our drink orders. At this time, soft drinks, water and coffee were available. I understand that their beer and wine license will kick in soon. She brought back our drink orders and took our pizza orders. We ordered a large "Specialty Transylvania Deep Dish" and a large Veggie-Saurus. We had quite the wait (more than an hour) for the pizza. We wrote this off to new business working out the kinks. The dough was tasty and the toppings were good. We were disappointed in the "Deep Dish." We could not differentiate it from the Hand-Tossed Veggie-Saurus. The only thing that we guessed was that the order was entered incorrectly or made incorrectly in the kitchen. Not to say the taste was wrong, we just had hoped to try their Deep Dish. The prices are a tad on the high side, relative to other local pizza options. Overall, we liked the atmosphere of Monster Pizza a lot. Will let the settle in a bit more to a good routine and then give them another shot.
