We have been living in the Charente for many years and miss two things from our life in Britain - cinema and curry. Orleans is the answer ! There were at least four Indian/Pakistani restaurants in the street so we will have to return to try another but Le Madras was very good . The owner was welcoming and charming , just the right amount of attention. We had the Decouvert menu ,40 euros for two people. Each dish was wonderful but the samosa was outstanding.

Today we had some starters( chicken tandoori and samosa aubergine) and main course( murg masala and lghost lamb madras). The service was good, the naan good, the starters acceptable, but the main course a real disastet. We never had this bad quality and taste. I have eaten in many indian restaurant but this was a wrong choice.

August 2, 2011, I returned to this good Indian restaurant, where I have dinner once a year, every time I sleep in Orleans on my way back to Paris, after spending a few days with my younger son Elden, who is a tenor and lives in Annecy, in the Alps region. After having my âapéritifâ watching the news in my Ibis room, I walked to this place on a pedestrian street full of restaurants and had an excellent dinner. Usually, I have a good lunch and a light dinner but I always arrive to Orleans in the late afternoon, so I make an exception in that case. Since I always walk a couple of miles between the hotel and the restaurant round trip, it seems that this helps the digestion, according to those who know more than I.I took the dinner three course set menu for 13 Euros as usual (France is not Uruguay, where prices have been multiplied by three in five years!), with a very good Chicken Tikka (brochette) as a starter, followed by a very good Chicken Tikka Masala with rice and a homemade excellent pistachio ice cream to conclude. Naturally, the Indian bread (Nan) is always included in the price. Unlike most restaurants, they have NO wine glass, only 1/2 bottles at 12+++ â¬, so I usually have a Heineken beer bottle for 3 â¬. That makes an excellent dinner for only 16 ⬠tax and tip included, to which I usually add a couple of Euros of extra tip.Since nonsmokers have managed to impose their will to the whole population in France, like in the US and in Uruguay, I usually have dinner inside, then I go outside and have a good espresso for a couple of extra Euros at one of the several tables they have on this pedestrian street.Good food, good service, reasonable price. Thatâs what I call an EXCELLENT VALUE FOR MONEY.
