As Americans here in the US, we know the Mexican food (that we love) in our American Mexican restaurants are Americanized, so to speak. But we love the stuff. I know I do. For El Rey, where I ate last night, I had this discussion with my waiter while enjoying some nice Dos Equis. And after perusing the menu, I noticed they did, in fact, offer some more authentic-leaning dishes that I haven't seen at the many a Mexican restaurant where I've eaten. I like that. It's nice to see something beyond the normal enchaladas, burritos, tacos, etc. That being said, I went with a dish I've had at other Mexican restaurants: carnitas chile verde. And I have to say, it was different (to a certain degree) from other chile verdes I've had. They made the pork chunks nice & crispy before laying on the very nice verde sauce (which I requested spicier than normal). And it was quite good. I'll definitely eat there again, and maybe try one of the more authentic-leaning dishes. Keep up the good work!

My first ever trip to an 'Authentic Mexican Restaurant' was to Mi Pueblo. The service is fantastic, the food is always delicious, and now that they have moved across the street to a new location, the restaurant has a nice feel to it. When it was in the mall it always seemed like the staff had to be fighting with facility problems. But the new location is bright, open, and attractive!
