La Victoria Taqueria

Authentic Mexican Street Food

This is my family's go-to takeout restaurant. The burritos and tortas are really good and I haven't met a person that hasn't liked them. I have had many out-of-town friends and family rave about the food. There is something for everyone. My favorites are the carnitas burrito, the Victoria torta, and their chipotle salsa (I ask for a small container on the side with every order). Save yourself time and call your order in beforehand.

Howling Wolf Taqueria

New Mexican cuisine

Having been a long while since eating at such an establishment in downtown Salem, I had made plans to meet a friend for lunch. Well, communication was screwed up and I was by my wee little one-some. But no matter! I hunkered down for a margarita and burrito. The place filled up fairly quickly at time of opening. The staff were polite and food service was quick (like, 5 minutes from time of order to sittin-in-front-of-me-insane quick). The Howling Wolf Burrito was rice, cheese, pinto beans, and carne deshebrada (shredded beef) with christmas chili sauce and chili con queso smothering this monster. Never fear, as a certain YouTube personality, Babish says: "This meal has joined the clean plate club." I didn't want to eat the rest of the day after this meal, but I was meeting a friend for some Back Alley later on and trust me, I soldiered on. But the meal was delicious, filling, and completed the day. And we barely hit noon.House margarita was served in a high ball glass instead of a margarita glass, but there was salt on the rim and I lack the class to be concerned with such frivolous, superficial 'faux pas.' The only question is thus: "was it good?" and I found the drink a little 'meh' to actually a little salty (even when drinking by straw and not by rim), but otherwise smooth and refreshing.Overall despite the social setback, it was a brilliant lunch that brightened the day, despite the on-coming thunderstorms.

Acapulcos

I have been contemplating this post, wasn't sure I wanted to post our horrible experience at Alcapulcos Mexican FAMILY restaurant in Beverly. I decided I would post to warn other people with children never to visit this particular location. Yesterday the kids and I had a play date with some friends from their school. We had a great day at #connorsfarm. We decided to go to #alcapulcosmexicanfamilyrestaurantbeverly for lunch. We were there around 1:30 with my twins and my friends son who is also 3 and has special needs. After about 45 min the kids got antsy (as all 3 year olds do) and of course had to make a bathroom run. As I was returning to our booth an old man sitting at the bar attacked me verbally. He was obviously upset by their typical 3 year old behavior and was going to proceed to tell me. I was shocked at first, I thought he was joking. He in fact was not. He started yelling at me, telling me that our children needed guidance and that I needed to teach them. I responded to him that they were 3!!!!! He kept going, and going and finally got so frustrated that he told me that I better not have any more kids, seriously?!?!? I just responded and told him he was a horrible human being and walked away. Now at this point my friend and I are so pissed we let the kids run-a-muck (I know prob not the best decision but I was so irate) and they are running by the gentleman in the bar,'laughing and playing etc. within minutes the bartender Jamie comes over (I assume to apologize for what he just witnessed) and proceeds to tell me that the kids shouldn't be in that area, says there are stairs and he is worried they may fall. Being a father himself, he was concerned. They were never near the stairs (and we never saw stairs) which I proceeded to tell him. He continued on about it because his customer the man that attacked me was mad. If he was so concerned why didn't he tell the man to stop attacking me?? I then asked him if I was mistaken because I thought it said FAMILY restaraunt on the sign?? At that point I asked for the manager, of course he had stepped out. I waited a while and went back in (the old man still sitting there) to see the manager. I told him what had happened and his response was they don't get involved in customer disputes.... ummm what?!?! So you allow grown men to verbally attack a woman and her small children? You allow your employees to approach customers to tell them their children can't do something, and then insult them on their parenting?? The manager was also no help and offered no resolution. Anyone that has been around my children KNOW they are very well behaved. Although, do at times have their moments as they are 3 they are typically awesome! For a family restaurant they sure don't seem to be family friendly, in fact they seem anti-family and booze bag friendly.... probably why the lonely, sad old man was sitting at the bar in the middle of the afternoon drinking. I will NEVER EVER step foot in that establishment again and I advise anyone with kids stay away as well. #alcapulcosbeverly #antifamily #neveragain #disgusted
