We visited this restaurant as it was recommended to us. An exhilarating walk to the Rio Mundo falls was needed to get us suitably hungry for a large and delicious lunch. The restaurant is not easy to find - tucked behind the main road through Riopar, on the edge of a new housing housing development in the calle rio MUNDO. If coming from the Falls when you join the main road turn Right in front of the petrol station and look out for a small red sign to the taverna on your left. Don't be put off by the initial approach however as from the first floor window we had a great view of the mountains and hunkered down by the blazing fire to an accompaniment of good music, toned down. We were the only ones there and although a prior call had been made we did not expect the chef to lay on such a feast from his degustation menu. We started with some sort of baked cheese, served with a lovely blackberry sauce and some sort of fruit chutney. Then a plate of crisply fried and lightly battered vegetables, covered in some sort of balsamic dressing. Really unusual and delicious. The next starter was a large plate of stag casseroled in a wine reduction sauce. My husband then had a fabulous looking piece of roasted lamb accompanied by crisply fried and lightly puffed potatoes. I had a chicken risotto - the least exciting dish. We were about to say we were absolutely full when out came taster puddings - a chocolate tart, baked custard and pumpkin type pie - all good. The meal was served with a house wine, finished off with a taster of home made blackberry liquor (left on the table for us to taste from a large bottle) and coffee - all for euros 23 per head. More than the average meals around here, but in a class of its own. This guy really knows how to cook, and seemed to be the sort of chef we gets a real kick out of preparing and serving his food personally. It's a new venture and I hope he succeeds in what are currently difficult times.

Where to eat Spanish food in Riopar: The Best Restaurants and Bars

I took some friends on a tour through the Sierra de Alcaraz which is the mountain range to the South West of Albacete with some absolutely breathtaking views. I had intended to stop in Elche de la Sierra for lunch, but we arrived too early, so I drove on to Riopar near the source of the Rio Mundo and stopped here.We ate on the terrace and the food was good value for the price (Menu del Dia 9⬠per head), but nothing special. The toilets were clean and the staff friendly. Its main claim to fame being that it was on the junction to the side road leading to the source of the Rio Mundo.Whilst I have nothing against this restaurant, I do feel that some of the other restaurants listed in Riopar might be better. So next time, I will try another.
