The town is located about 20 kilometres (12 mi) northwest of Amsterdam in the Randstad metropolitan area, north of the North Sea Canal very close to the North Sea coast. A railway tunnel and two motorway tunnels cross the canal between Beverwijk and the nearby city of Haarlem on the south bank.

I am visiting almost 40 years the "Rode Haan" and it is still the nicest bar in Beverwijk. Since 10 years is Hendrik Jan the new owner of this bar. There is also a possibility to eat some small dishes. When you are in Beverwijk you must visit "De Rode Haan".

Sinds Juli 2019 is er nieuw restaurant geopend in Velsen Noord aan de Wijkerstraatweg. Wij hebben er afgelopen zondagavond gegeten. Wat hebben wij heerlijk gegeten en alles vers. Wat zijn wij blij dat wij eindelijk een goed restaurant hebben in Velsen Noord. Een goede en beleefde kok, bediening die hun vak verstaan en we werden erg vriendelijk ontvangen. Er was nergens een minpuntje te vinden. Wij komen graag snel weer langs.
