Found by chance whilst driving along the Naviglio, we entered and found a very pleasant surprise. A totally refurbished old building had simple but tasteful tables and general décor; managed by a group of young men, they offer delicious local recipes at a very reasonable price. The food was lovely, the service informal and friendly, the choice of wine good and tempting. Local recipes are a must there.

We went to Magenta en route to Milan because I run a company called Magenta and wanted a picture in front of the Welcome to Magenta sign. It was a good choice of a stop-off point. The town is totally without tourists and devoid of any particular attractions. But the restaurant itself is excellent. Not pretty by any means but the staff were very hospitable to two people who didn't speak Italian, gesturing us through the menu process. Basically you sit down at a table with bottles of wine and water and are brought whatever food is on offer. There's no choice but it's all the more stress free and fun for that. We had a Milanese soup to start, rabbit, and two types of veal with a buffet salad and then cheese and coffee to finish. A good standard of food served in a no frills atmosphere with locals. We felt as if we had been invited into someone's home for lunch. If that's what you're looking for, then come here. It's out of the way but fun for it.
