Things to do in Douai

We had a lovely meal, in the quiet restaurant, good service, very good value for money and excellent tasty food. I am Coeliac and was very pleased to see that the restaurant menu offers a very comprehensive allergens guide. It was therefore very disappointing to discover that they seemed to be unaware that the soy sauce they were marinating the brochettes in contained gluten. We narrowly averted me being ill by pointing this out, others may not have been so lucky. Only 3 because of this.

We are staying in Douai tonight as a stopover back to the UK. After hunting for something to eat for the family we noticed this place was very popular with the locals...for take-out. After seeing how miserable/surly the staff were I don't blame the people of Douai for eating what was excellent food at home. The guy who served us acted as though his dog and hamster had died. Twice. On the same day. Admittedly they are baby friendly and as stated the food was very good indeed. Just a pity that the staff need to go to training school to learn to be just a little cheerful. When a baby smiles at you, just smile back. When people say thank you and smile, respond appropriately. Not too much to ask, surely? So the locals are right...takeaway appears to be best.
