We found ourselves in Peso da Regua on a public holiday during a visit to the Duoro valley. We needed some lunch and found Limonete which was packed with local families enjoying a holiday lunch. We got the last table and where very glad we did. As we were looking at the menu we saw massive plates of food coming out to the happy families. We decided to share a pizza Bella Mama which was more than enough for two and it was loaded with everything you could wish for on a pizza - ham, sausage, mushroom, peppers, tuna , olives and about a dozen large prawns. Thought we should join in the holiday merriment and had a bottle of delicious vinho verde to wash it down.Delicious food, really friendly service and including a generous tip it came to 20 euros.So I revise my title to fantastic value.

We were searching up and down the alleys of Régua for somewhere to have lunch before boarding our boat, and were lucky to stumble upon Don Peppo. Once inside a much larger venue unfolded than could have been anticipated from the quite inconspicuous entrance. Many of the tables were already occupied by what I assume were locals. But even though we were just random visitors passing by town, we were treated with equal familiarity by the staff, which felt very good. The menu proved to be a well balanced mix of local specialties and international fare such as pizzas and pasta, and prices very reasonable to boot. Very satisfied we eventually left the restaurant for our river Douro tour.

We have found this restaurant by chance. However, it turned out to be an excellent choice. Food was good and the owner was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended !
