First impressions are important and sadly La Vita's is not good. The outside of the building does nothing to indicate there might be good Italian food inside. Unfortunately, walking in, it doesn't get any better. The walls AND ceiling are all sponge painted black and white - the whole place looks like a Rorschach ink blot test. A few photos and paintings just can't overcome that. Finally, the tables and chairs are straight out of 1970 BBQ joint. It's just not appetizing and definitely not Italian. Next our server, while sweet and polite, clearly has no training in food service. She was unable to remember anyone's order and had no idea what to do when a customer orders wine by the bottle. Hint: you always open the bottle in front of the customer and get approval, before pouring. However, there was no service problem that a minimum of training wouldn't solve and I always say no one gets fat from atmosphere. So, how was the food? Well, better than the décor would indicate, but not much. We had a wide smattering from the menu. The pizza had good crust and abundant toppings. It was the best thing at our table. However, the marinara sauce was bland and lacked any sort of character. The baked ziti was not so much a baked dish as it was a plate of pasta and bland sauce with cheese melted on top. Biggest disappointment for me was the lasagna - same bland sauce, over cooked pasta, not much cheese, slung from the spoon presentation. I had read elsewhere, "life changing." Ah, no. Worst, was the appetizer special, fried ravioli, right from the freezer! Let me say it again, nothing was awful (except the paint), but OK just doesn't cut it these days. I had high hopes of being transported back to the food of Rome, Naples, and Venice, but it was not to be. I see potential and I hope La Vita will use it.

Found this restaurant tucked away in an nearly abandoned shopping center many years ago. The Pizza and Cannoli's are awesome. They have now moved to a more active location and are a lot busier. Nothing has changed though...The Pizza is great and I will always get mine from Marcos.

Zeko's Village

09/12/2016This will be my last words on Zeko's unless things change dramatically. We ordered a large cheese and a large pepperoni pizza. Zekos WAS our "go to" place for pizza when we were rushed for dinner. Their pizza USED to be great. The ingredients they use for their pizzas have changed. The sauce was almost non-existent and what little there was, was flavorless. The cheese was the biggest disappointment. The cheese didn't pull and stretch when you took a bite, it....well....gave the impression of breaking off or falling apart might be a more accurate description. It, too, was bland and quite forgetful. The crust tastes pre-made or at least made from frozen dough. Cardboard has more flavor. There are too many pizza places around to eat bad pizza. It is sad to see how far this place has fallen with their food quality. Almost on any given day, there would nary be a table available during dinner rush. When I picked up the pizzas at 7:00, 4 booths were occupied and that was it. Very sad. We won't be going back. And from the looks of things in the restaurant last evening, I am not the only person in Mocksville that feels this way.
