If you are a history nut the continuity flaws of the 1920s speakeasy theme might drive you nuts like the 1950s picture of Hepburn on the wall, fortunately the decor is a bit sparse allowing for the historic building to shine. Service was really good and prompt. The cocktail list is great with lots of variety but an extra dirty martini came out almost pure vodka, so maybe they don't know simple classics. The menu has a lot of variety too and food came super fast after being ordered. Portions are filling and not huge but I was sad that redskin mashed potatoes are 100% a box mix and not made from scratch and it left me wondering how much of the rest of my meal was pre processed and not fresh made. The flavors were good but I expected better food quality based on reviews.Hello StephP and thank you for your review. We're so glad you were able to stop in at Hops & Rye. Great observation about Ms. Hepburn not being from the 1920s! I'm a big fan of hers and love that picture of her in the wide brimmed hat so I put it up for fun, even though she's from the '50s. I always feel like she's winking at us from her spot on our brick wall. I hope you don't mind if I correct one statement from your review, our red skinned mashed potatoes are made from scratch daily. Our chef makes all our bread, sauces and almost everything on the menu from scratch. I apologize if the potatoes didn't taste that way on the day you visited us, usually they're a favorite of our customers so we must have missed the mark that day. With large entertainment venue across the street this is an ideal place for dinner before or drinks after a show. We enjoy the great selection of food and drinks. Sometimes it takes a while for food due to large crowds but there is enough televisions to keep your attention.Robert, thank you for the review! A first visit to The Hangar would warrant a return trip. No music was playing the day we went so I would like to return for music. However, the Owners were very friendly; provided good service and the food was good.
