The Crazy Horse is located on the premises of the erstwhile racetrack of Basel, the Schaenzli, hence the name. That is, the racetrack is still there, but races are no longer held on it - but other equestrian events. The Crazy Horse nestles in the Muttenz turn right by the entrance. It's a small place, and the whole premises are somewhat dilapidated, but it is very well worth going to the Crazy Horse. During the warm season there are many outside tables. The place is also great for groups of up to about 30 people. The service is very attentive, swift and friendly, and thy offer a good variety of mostly Swiss traditional dishes, nothing fancy, but very well coked, very good food and very decent portions. Prices are well below Swiss average. Th decor and the interior are very simple and rustic, but it's clean and well run. I can highly recommend the Crazy Horse. When I bring one of my horses to the track for training, we also go and have some food and rink there afterwards. We are going to have the end of the year meeting of our riding club there as well. A true little gem with people who make a real effort to make it a success - which it is among locals! There is ample parking right outside and by the adjacent stable tract.

I love roesti, but it is very difficult to find a restaurant that makes it just right, without too much oil. The Mittenza is the right place to eat it. The restaurant offers quite a varied menu, but the other food is pretty standard. If you go there, order a local dry white wine from the Muttenz area. And if you're not afraid for a few extra calories, order the Roesti with two eggs, sunny side up.

Decided to have lunch here as we were visiting a park nearby at the Swiss-German border. Very nice restaurant. Doesnât look like much... but the food was delicious and the service very friendly. Thought we would have more of a view on the Rhein because on the map it looks really well positioned, but thereâs actually huge pools and then trees blocking the view. Very affordable prices. Free parking opposite the restaurant.
