Things to do in Marilia

Sooooo....This is my 5th of 8 nights in Marilia on a business trip. While I found a decent meal every night so far (except the 2nd night) I was looking for a nice upscale dinner tonight as I had 3 clients with me. The concierge at the hotel recommended La Marche. The lady told me it was a new restaurant that had quickly become 'the place to eat' in the city. While I'm usually hesitant with new restaurants as they always seem to be good at first and then you know the rest...We got in the cab and I told the driver we were going to 'La Marche'...surprisingly the first thing the driver said was 'best restaurant in the city my friend'....or something like that in portugese haI'm not one for reviews, however bear with me as this place was worth the visit from start to finish! So far my experience in Marilia has been about what I was expecting. 4 out of 5 nights I found a place that was almost like not leaving home, good food you'll find in most cities. As soon we got out of the cab I knew this place was different. Paris, London New York?? Right away the entire setup and feel was something I had not yet encountered in Brazil, Including the previous 3 days last week touring the fancy restaurants in Sao Paolo on my bosses dime :) Immediately La Marche reminded me of a new trendy spot in SoHo or a similar area in London, above and beyond what I've seen so far in Brazil. Initial reaction was high end Chic (let me explain)....We were welcomed right away by the hostess who offered us a comfortable spot in the bar (I didn't have a reservation so there was a 20 min wait for a table) We had a cocktail while we waited for an opening. Service was top notch from the second we walked in until the hostess seated us in the dining room. Again, this was unlike any other place I have visited thus far in Brazil (Marilia or Sao Paolo). From here La marche only got better :) Food was unbelievable! Appetizers were as good or better than anything you will find in any high end restaurant anywhere that I have travelled. Needless to say at this point I'm extremely impressed and a little taken aback. Something about La Marche made me think this place didn't belong way out here in the interior of Brazil! One of the clients I was entertaining tonight is a self confessed 'foodie'. He's currently working from Paris and to be honest he's a little 'too' into food...one of those people (we've all met them)! From the time we got to the restaurant until the time we left he constantly raved about the service and food using some words I suspect were 'borrowed' from the latest issue of Vogue :) he was so Into the place when the chef came over to introduce himself they struck up a conversation and unsurprisingly he happened to learn the trade in Paris and they talked for what seemed like an hour going back and fourth about food and restaurants in France. The chef was very personable which made the whole experience that much better. My 'foodie' friend even scored us a round of drinks from the chef on the house! Needless to say (I'm rambling) the food was fantastic and the atmosphere matched what you would expect in a world class restaurant in a world class city. Finally we ordered a mix of deserts (pastries etc) and espresso coffee before leaving and I think this was the best part of the meal. The chef mentioned his wife was trained in France at a top pastrie school and he wasn't kidding! I'll try to post a few pics to justify our great experience tonight, hopefully they do La Marche justice! I am here until Saturday morning and will definitely be back Friday night with my boss!! Last but not least, the wine list is extensive and unlike anywhere else I've visited in Brazil....Signed, Very impressed!
