French bistro fare & a varied wine list star in a cozy, colorful space.
L'Ardoise (chalkboard in French) is on a quiet street, a few blocks away from the heart of the castro. The food is classic French food- cooked classically without any gimmicks or twists. Coq au Vin, Cassoulet, Onion soup -all are cooked perfectly. The service was also wonderful. The waiters are quite knowledgeable and are very on the spot without being intrusive. If you're looking for top-notch CLASSIC French food, this is the place for you. If you're looking for modern twists or the latest fafd, this is not the place. EVERYTHING is cooked and prepared according to classic French cooking. I highly recommend this restaurant to everybody.

The place is cute with nice ambience. Unfortunately, the food is not up to par. Itâs a very popular restaurant around the neighborhood, but as a French cuisine enthusiast, nothing satisfied my snobbish palate thatâs been dined at five 3-Michelin started restaurants in the Bay Area (see my reviews here). Going to French Laundry in August which we already reserved a table and to complete my seven 3-Michelin starred conquest in the Bay Area, Coi is on my list to visit soon. Been to other 3 Michelin starred restaurants outside the country and outside SF. To sum it up, I know French food when I go to one. Suffice it to say, I was very disappointed at Le Pâtit. Even my kids were disappointed who are frequent fine-dining enthusiasts and been to Michelin starred restaurants. Service was ok. Our waiter never came back to check on us. For the price you pay, go to Michelin starred restaurants instead. We ordered the rabbit, rack of lamb, stuffed sea bass, seared salmon, fried chicken for my 12yr old, foie gras appetizer, onion soup, spinach with onions, and a glass of Cabernet for my lamb. All came down to $208 excluding tips. The rabbit was the worst dish. The seabass was bland, my rack was dry and hubbyâs seared salmon wasnât good. The foie was not good. The fried chicken was 2.5 pieces of chicken nuggets that even my 12 year old left 1.5 pieces on his plate. Sadly, we wonât be coming back.
